I've been going back and forth on this issue for a while. I play a Gibson ES-446 with Voodoo Pickups (humbuckers with low output). I play mainly jazz/rock/country/folk/funk type stuff (haha). I got low output pickups b/c I wanted to use a Keeley Compressor which has an IC chip that doesn't like...

Beltrom, the SS2 seems interesting. Have you thought about the Arturia Minimoog or Moog V Modular Softsynths? I too am interested in prog rock stuff, and also fusion stuff, and modern type stuff like Ween and such. We might have similar needs.

mshea, thanks man! Yeah, I bet the drum sampling takes practice to get it sounding good. Although expensive, FXPansion's BFD seems like a good way to go.

DR008 and BFD are two that I'm looking into. I'm interested in other recommendations as well.

Good recommendation......it looks like people's PC's are all across the board. Even those with 512MB RAM seem to be able to get the job done. I'm thinking about upgrading my Dell Desktop (Pentium 4, 1.8Ghz) by adding another 512MB RAM to the existent 256MB. Maybe just go to 1Gig of RAM. I figure...
