    Sitar sound... finally made it!

Do you know how they did what? Got that sitar sound on Paint it Black? The answer to that one is simple... Brian Jones learned how to play a sitar........ :)

    Fender Bass Parts

Ok so I took delivery today of a shiny Fender Jazz fretless (mexican) I got for a steal off Ebay. Can anyone recommend any suppliers (preferably in the UK) of replacements parts as I want to make some minor alterations (namely replacing the hardware with black instead of chrome and also...

If you play a five string bass...

Have to agree with nP... watch the string spacing. My five string is a Bass Collection (Japanese) which have active circuitry as standard if memory serves (passive pickups tho on the starting models) although ive since replaced all the electronics with active EMG pickups and EQ. Nice wide neck...

    Heavy sound with strat.

Ok maybe im even crazier for not letting this go BUT nobody mentioned anything about RHYTHM guitar sound prior to my posts in this thread... sorry for maybe looking at things from a different angle... Secondly as Cunning Stunts and S&M are both live performances my assessment wasnt based on a...

    Heavy sound with strat.

Maybe im crazy but im pretty sure Kirk Hammet (Hammett? Hamett?) has been known to wield a Strat from time to time.. in fact thats exactly what he uses in the video for "One".... and im fairly certain you can see him using one in both the Cunning Stunts and S&M vids as well... if i could be...

    Dumb tuning question

From Master of Reality onwards Tony Iommi tuned down to C# and it sounded monstrously heavy. Im sure he probably used heavier gauge strings and had some truss rod twiddling involved tho........

    The Lemmy sound

hrn im guessin (and i mean guessing!) that Lemmy was usin tube amps cranked somewhere or other... if you can try out a PD7 tho itd be worth a look at as its really got a pleasant overdriven sound to it... the one time ive used a tube amp with a bass (playing around with a musicman stingray in...

    The Lemmy sound

For bass overdrive I use an Ibanez PD7 Phathed bass overdrive pedal... it can sound a bit synthetic if its really cranked up to maximum distortion levels but if you dont get carried away it gives you a nice overdriven tone in a similar vein to Lemmy. I know that doesnt answer your question...

    The Lemmy sound

Im pretty sure Lemmy used a Rickenbacker 4001 and played with a pick... not sure about any effects etc but i guess thats a good starting point.

    heavy strings

Six, im not exactly a guitar expert but the floyd rose system on my bc rich kicks the ass of the trem on my Yamaha Pacifica and doesnt kill any of the sound at all. Or at least its got heaps of sustain and a real nice tone so im presuming it isnt having a negative effect. I ended up screwing...

    Yamaha Pacifica

I have a Pacifica 112... not that i can play it! Not being a guitarist my frame of reference is a tad limited but it encouraged me to try and learn how to play the damn thing and i think thats the sign of a good instrument no?

    playing bass

I know EXACTLY what you mean.. I play a 5 string myself and those 4 strings with them skinny wee necks are a little disorientating these days! Bodoc im with you totally on the tonal exploration point! I dont understand this attitude about "picks are for guitars not basses". I personally play...

    playing bass

Im with GT on the thumb-resting-on-string statement... thats a big help when playing with fingers. Incidentally theres nothing wrong with using a pick... dont let the bass snobs tell you otherwise. Personally i play a little of both styles. Depending on the pickup configuration you might find it...
