    Preamps for the MR series

I meant the insert jacks on the mixer, out to the inputs on the MR8. Using a standard 1/4" cable plugged halfway in on input A I bypass that preamp. The others I try to boost the signal on the mixer enuf that I can minimize the trim on the MR8.

    Preamps for the MR series

I use a mixer for this, and take each channel out of it to MR8 HD via the insert jacks.

    Fostex MR8-HD Help needed!!!

It is actually called WAVManager - download from fostex site (support - software downloads). Put your MR8HD in USB Device Mode, then start WAVManager, and it should display a box indicating the drive letter used by the MR8HD and let you select from the songs on it.

    Mr8hd

Don't worry about deleting songs. Just fill up the hard drive and then when you get to 99 you can reformat and get all the space back. Delete doesn't really delete! WAVManager will allow you to transfer the individual track files without bouncing. You can then mix them on your PC (I use...

    mr8hd pres

The mic pres are a little noisy, esp at higher gain. I use a Mackie mixer in front instead, then add just a little from the MR8HD if needed - seems the digital headroom is a little higher than the analog.

    Another Dumb Newbee Question...

Yes, the MR8 HD has a USB HOST connection that works with some CD burners. I think there is a thread on compatible CD burners on the fostex users forum - accessible from the fostex website support tab.

    Converting individual tracks from MR8HD?

Yes, it is free. If you need something to mix with, try audacity - also free.

    Converting individual tracks from MR8HD?

You need to download wavmanager from the Fostex site and it will transfer and convert the tracks for you.

    Which one to choose?

I looked at both of those, bought the MR8-HD due to 4 inputs and simultaneous recording of them. It has worked perfectly for me, and I have almost a hundred songs on it now. I use it as my recorder, then transfer everything to PC for mixing. I use a mixer on the front end for the better...

    mr8hd memory

Mr8hd YEs, I am pretty happy with it. I use it as a recorder, and transfer tracks to pc for mixing. I and my buddy regularly use it to record our guitars and vocals, so the 4-simultaneous inputs get regular use - that's really why I bought this unit. I find that the transferred tracks are...

    mr8hd memory

Because the HD is 40GB, it isn't really an issue. You just keep adding songs! I have about 75 song takes on mine so far.... When you want to delete them, though, better be sure there isn't anything there you want ot keep, because essentially you have to reformat the hard drive....

    mr8hd

I have one - works well for me. It has 4 inputs (XLR or unbal) and will record 4 tracks simultaneously. NO CD burner, but it has a USB "Host" which at some point is allegedly going to support an external CD burner. However, it is easy to transfer tracks to PC for mixing/burning.

    Gain staging/MR8

I find that even with the signal from mixer set to just short of clipping, I still need to add trim at the MR8HD - usually set it at 2-4, depending on what I'm recording. This level doesn't seem noisy to me....

What other machines are you trying to play it back on? If they are not 4-trackers you should hear nothing but garbage!

Can anyone tell me where I can find a review on the MR-8 HD?

I haven't seen one anywhere yet.

    Wow, Li'l Red for $50 less! (MR-8)

I moved up from the Fostex X-34 4-track to the MR-8HD, and I'm enjoying the difference. I love being able to get separate tracks into the computer via USB instead of thru the soundcard, the storage! and the 4-tracks at a time option. I may never use most of the effects, but some I've tried are...
