How to mic drums and what to use?

I'm with ya Man, I'm in the process of trying to find out the whole "clicking" kick drum thing, too. It always seems as though nobody knows what I'm talking about. Here are a few things to certainly try: 1) Make sure your bass drum is muffled. There's a pillow in mine. It comes in pretty...

yeah, I know I know that tuning is the best way. I was just wondering if there were any particular frequencies to boost/cut to provide attack.

    GEAR! What do you use?

Don't worry I play on a kit that is known as a piece of crap. It's made by Rhythm Art. It sucks right now. Notice I said "right now". I'm telling you man, if you put some good heads on it and tune it PROPERLY, it won't be bad at all. Don't go a step further until you read the Drum Tuning...

    Which overhead mic????

Whoops I forgot. Someone on this forum posted that the Marshall MXL 603 is a good overhead. It seems to be much cheaper than, say, the AKG C3000B's. Are they any good??? What's the difference???

    Beta 52 or D112???

Idealy, I would like to get that "clicky" kick sound like what is heard on any hardcore/death metal recording. I listen to a lot of Killswitch Engage and In Flames. I realize that there is some EQing to be done but, which would be best???

    M-Audio 1010lt setup

I have been thinking about purchasing a 1010lt but I need to know exactly what I can do with it. I use N-track and/or Sonar for my recording of tracks. Since the 1010lt has 10 inputs, if I record 10 different instruments plugged into different inputs, will each input record as a seperate...

    audio input levels

In Sonar, for each track there is an audio level bar. I realize that when it hits the RED, it's clipping. But if I record every track to the max, or just under the red, then the tracks get cluttered. About what level should I have each track recording in at???

    pulse red hots any good?????

Are Pulse Red Hots Triggers any good? They're just so cheap that they seem like crap. Good? If not, do you recommend any brand/kind in particular?

    Getting that bass drum click

When I go to shows at my local venue, this happens every time. I'm sitting there watching the band set up their equipment. The drummer/drum tech will sit there and kick on the bass drum while some guy in the back mixes it to sound good. At first, the kicks always sound like crap. They...
