    The New Tone Thread

I used a light flanger on 1 of the 4 rhythm guitar tracks. I also rolled off a good amount of low end on the guitars because they were just too thick and tended to make the mix murky. Was it any instrument in particular that you felt was "scratchy" or just the mix in general?

I haven't contributed much lately so I figured that I'd toss this out there for you guys to scrutinize. It's a work in progress called "We The Sheeple". I still need to track the vocals but since this is a tone thread that doesn't matter much. Since there are 6 guitar tracks done with 3...

Their city slogan should be "Whiting Indiana a great city to be from".

    pawn shop deal.

Those Peavey valve king amps are some of the most god awful sounding pieces of crap that I've ever had the misfortune of playing through. The distortion channel sounds both murky and piercing no matter how you EQ it.

    humbucker suggestions

I just put a set of Seymour Duncan Distortion Mayhem SH-6 pickups in my Les Paul and they are kick ass. They sound like a more robust version of a Duncan 59. Don't waste your money on cheap pickups because you will not be happy with them. Spend the extra coin and buy the Seymour Duncan pickups...

I'm a big fan of southern rock and I like this tune. My only suggestion is that it sounds too dry. Some well tuned reverb would really open things up. A sound somewhere in between "Hold On Loosely" and "Chain Lightning" is what I think you should shoot for. YMMV

Yes they are pretty kick ass. Are yours the 8 or 16 ohm version? Mine are the 8 ohm version and finding another pair of those is like searching for big foot.

    Upgrading a 4x12 piecemeal

I lucked out back in the 80s when I bought my Marshall 4x12 cab dirt cheap. It had 2x G12H30 55hZ blackbacks from 1978 and 2x G1265 from 1982. Recently I lucked out again and snagged 2 more G12H30 55HZ blackbacks also from 1978 that some guy had stored in his closet for decades. My Marshall cab...

It's a Univibe clone so the modulation that you are hearing is the Moon Vibe. My recording chain is: Kramer Striker> Moon Vibe> Carvin VL100> Palmer PDI-03> TC Electronic G major 2> PreSonus Audiobox.

    Diagnose: Tube amp crackly sound

To narrow it down try running out of the effects loop send to see if the preamp is making the sound. You can also run a pedal into the effects return to check the power section.
