you could try doubling the lazer track, put a slight delay on one of them, and start them off both panned center and spread them apart. something along those lines might work, unless that's too cheezy...

I would bounce each 4 track guitar part down to one mono track panning the tracks before bouncing would be pretty much pointless (if you're bouncing to mono) I would definitely reccomend you do any necessary EQing before bouncing the tracks, that way you can be more selective about which...

i'd say only mix the drums down to a stereo pair if you're really really sure about the mix. if it was me and i had a track number/space issue, I'd at least keep the snare and kick tracks seperate and mix the rest of the drum tracks down to stereo...at least then you have a little more control...

i usually record with the amp near the corner of the room (facing into the room, not the corner) Other than that, I'd just advise to get the amp up off the floor to avoid any nasty reflections...

try checking out As I Lay Dying...they're pretty good. my only peice of advise as far as recording...if there's a lot of double kick, make sure you get the kick "clicky" enough, otherwise you just end up with a super muddy low end.

just my opinion, but i'd rather listen to a great song at 22/8-bit than some piece of shit at 96/24-bit. frequency response, signal to noise, sonic clarity...they aren't the be all end all. you can turn out a listenable product with a four track and a couple 57's if you know your gear and how...
