Just bought new Mackie PROFX16v3 mixer - how to send outputs to my soundcard?

Many thanks. I'm using Cakewalk and Studio One. I can't see anywhere in Cakewalk which lets me toggle between two different sound devices. To save visiting Control Panel I tried sending to the AIO using two Aux Outs. That seems to work ok. We'll see.... !

Just bought new Mackie PROFX16v3 mixer - how to send outputs to my soundcard?

I'm enjoying this new mixer, replacing my aged (but more sophisticated Tascam 2600...) but the USB connection in my opinion is lame. To achieve it you have to go into Windows Control Panel and change the sounds device from your soundcard (in my case an RME Aio) to the Mackie 'device'. On my...

    Change DR880 from DAW?

Is it possible to change a Pattern in the DR880 drum machine/guitar processor via a MIDI command from within my DAW (Bandlab's Cakewalk)? I know I can change drum kits but it would be great to be able to change Patterns, and therefore guitar sounds. Cheers John

    'Santiago'

Complete, plus video I got to the stage where I felt the song was finished and any more work would over-egg the pudding. Here it is behind a video that probably clarifies the meaning of the lyrics also. Thanks for all those who listened and made suggestions. John YouTube

Sounding good now. I'd lower the vocals a tad and call it complete.

    Falling (thoughts?)

I liked the mood, groove, nice guitar work and sparse arrangement. I thought the drumming was too metronomic, and the snare a tad loud. Also, a song like this needs the drummer to stop occasionally with a cymbal crash (e.g. at the end of the intro and the end of choruses) and also do some short...

Pen Penny Pen with JohnnyAmato and ibleedburgundy

The new mix sounds a lot better to my ears. I know mixes can be very subjective and skewed by our own tastes and experiences, so I can only speak for what I hear. (I'm listening on a good desktop system with both Adam and Alesis studio monitors and Sennheiser headphones.) The drums are a lot...

Many thanks Robus. I don't mind at all, it's what I want. Could you expand a little? You know what it's like; I'm so close to the canvas I can't see the picture any more! I thought I was singing with the beats, or do you mean that's the problem and I should try and loosen things, leave out...

I changed the tempo of the vox audio files in Cakewalk, it seemed to work fine.

Love the song; evocative lyrics. The vocals sound great to me, Johnny has a superb voice! I liked it when there was a contrast between the solo vocals and the harmony highlights in the verses and then the full blown harmonies in the choruses. As the harmonies are so good I'd use them as a bit...

Craig Schmidt - "Go" (YouTube link)

Nice song - I like the accidental train sound before the start! (A) Yes, pitchy in parts but not like 'ouch'! It's an energetic, emotional live performance, so fine. In a studio, yes, you'd maybe Melodyne one or two parts, being careful not to lose any of the feel. (B) The song stands well...

    Electric Blue - Shining Sun

I love the feel/mood of this. I especially liked the vox intro where the voice is doing a warm, intimate 'hmmmm', etc. and it totally matches with the electric piano. I was a tad disappointed when that timbre changed. I wonder if a bit less reverb and an EQ adjustment would remove the strident...

Improved mix No.2 Here's an improved version: Santiago Mix 2 The drumming was wrong; I changed the hats from eights to fours and took a lot of the drum pushes out, and also changed the kit (XLN Addictive drums). I also upped the tempo from 125bpm to 128bpm. I think the feel is a lot better...

    'Santiago'

Many thanks for taking a listen. You're right about the synth blips, they are a bit 'there'; I'll put some more reverb on. I've also taken the bass down a tad. Link has new version.

    'Santiago'

This is a first mix of my latest project and was wondering whether I'm there or nearly there! Do the vocals sit right or are they too dominant? Do the vocal harmonies seem at the right levels? Is the bass too dominant? Any other observations would be helpful, thanks. Santiago Mix 1

Is it worth my checking out Pro Tools?

Thanks guys. I'm a tad worried about BandLab's business model for Cakewalk/Sonar as it is being given away free and a lot of us are wondering how they intend to generate income going forward, hence I'm thinking long term a may have to switch and perhaps I ought to try ProTools. I watched a...

Is it worth my checking out Pro Tools?

I mainly use Cakewalk by BandLab (Sonar Platinum) with Studio One 3 as my secondary DAW; (although Studio One's obsession with everything EDM to the virtual exclusion of everything ese has put me off moving to version 4.) I write and record my own songs as a hobby so I don't need share stems...

    Good to Great

You should be able to EQ the sibiance out, you can usually find it at 5kHz to 8kHz. Have you tried using Ozone 8 to master? It's an amazing 'click and go' mastering tool.

    Good to Great

Immediate thoughts: An enjoyable piece. You have a great vocal timbre and it totally suited the song. The vocal seemed mixed perhaps a little bit too much up front; it didn't seem to be 'in the same space' as the backing. A trick I sometimes use is to put a tiny bit of reverb on the overall mix...
