Do you really buy that expensive recording software?

People rip stuff off because they can, and because a lot of people are fundamentally cheap and dishonest. Somebody goes to work and produces something, a non-productive leech takes it. It's been that way forever. However, it is not without risk; http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8177285.stm

    Non-dedicated DAW computer

I'm buying a computer to record on in the next week or two, and it would make life easier if I could do it on one box; say, have 2 drives for the DAW stuff, and one for my other stuff; remove unnecessary and bothersome programmes; and when I use it to record, disable the modem, AV, and anything...

I'm having a system built, and the dude recommends OCZ. I'm not all that techy, and have never heard of it, although surfing shows me it's there. Can anyone give a preference for RAM [2 gb] in a DAW [Quad Intel 6600, Gigabyte P35 board] ? Thanks very much.

Why get Pro Tools when you can get use something like REAPER?

Agreed, which is why I wouldn't touch Reaper with a 10 foot pole. The Traveling Fan Club, the "If you don't use. Reaper, you suck," the "Why would you use pro-tools when you can use Reaper," the 4-letter words...... Man, just the 'name' of the thing.... Grim Reaper? The image of the...

Pretext after pretext for taking what someone else worked to produce, and to which you have no right. Badmouth companies, then steal their product. How could such low, despicable people ever invent anything which you were not smart enough to invent yourself? Well, maybe they just got lucky...

Even if that were true, nobody has the right to steal my product just because they want it, no matter what their income. You won't starve to death without stolen music. If someone needs food, I will help.

    Best simple PC recording rig.

If you are buying an M-Audio sound card, you will find that it included software, probably Ableton Lite. Familiarize yourself with the included software before you spend your money on other software. Ableton is somewhat specialized, but is highly regarded.
