    I would do it completely different. Have the drummer play the entire song and record it all on one track from one mic. (this will get deleted later) Then let the drummer listen to that as he plays each drum and hat separately onto their own track.

    Using a Reference Video while Editing

    There's nothing wrong with using a reference video if you don't know what to do, but you don't need to. As you become more experienced you wont need it anymore because you will already have an idea in your head about what you want to do.
