    Beginners Cover

Wow Thanks for all your comments. I really appreciate them! Most of the timing issues seem to be because each track was recorded by seperately and I didn't use a click track. (Newbie error.) I'm going to go back and re-record the guitar tracks myself and see if I can make it better. The...

    Beginners Cover

Hey all, I recently finished my best mix so far (not saying much, but I'm still learning) This was done with: a takamine acoustic with a PUP going into my POD 2.0 plus micing the acoustic from in front and behind. Then I recorded the vocals with my best mic (sm57) and ambient recording in my...

    Most expensive guitar.

Strats Not all these have prices on them, but I particularly like the 001 strat Dave Gilmour has. I wonder how much that one is worth. http://www.fender.com/60cyclehum/06112003/strat_article.html

Converting Audiodesk projects to Digital performer

Hi all. I'm currently using Digital Performer on my mac. But my wife is going to start using Audiodesk on her Pc to do some recording. What do you think is the best way for me to grab her recordings and import them into Digital Performer? Since they are made by the same company would you...

Best Laptop for Recording (2400$ max)

Hard Drives Another important part of your decision is the speed of the hard drive. New Laptop hard drives can be up to 7200 RPM which is nice for recording. If you get a hard drive with a slow spin rate it will not be able to keep up with the input stream.

What the hell did they do at Abby Road studios ??

Floyd and Abby Road I just read something interesting about Pink Floyd and Abbey Road. Apparently they did every album up to Wish You Were Here at Abbey Road, but then built their own studio (based on AR's setup) for Animals and The Wall. Now I can't really hear the difference in quality...

    mac recording software

doh again! hehe.. figures. That's my Bay Area bias coming into play. Btw: I saw the Doobie Brothers (well, three of them) give a presentation at the apple store here in palo alto. They were using Logic Platinum, and it looked really cool. The virtual instruments that they have are pretty...

    mac recording software

Recording software for the mac I think there is a bunch of cheap single track recording software. As for multitrack the prices go from 200 bucks for simple stuff like EMagic Logic, to 500 bugs for EMagic Platinum and Digital Performer to 1000 bucks for Nuendo. I personally use DP and Love it...

Using a laptop...good or bad idea?

Laptop Layout I can personally attest to the 828 for laptops. We do weekly jams at my place, where we have an all digital setup. Roland VDrums 2 mics going into the 828 preamps 2 guitars going into pods 1 bass going into a modeler This is all going into the 828 then into my 12" powerbook in...

Using a laptop...good or bad idea?

Using a laptop My mentor in recording and I have been using our Powerbooks (with Digital performer) for quite some time. There are some things to consider when using a laptop. 1. Make sure you have good means for external interfaces. Perhaps a PCMCIA firewire card. 2. You'll end up wanting...
