    Drum programming in Sonar 2

OK, I have the Evolution MK-361C sitting in front of me, set to channel 10. I've created a MIDI channel, set its input to MIDI channel 10, set its channel to 10 (why, BTW, do you set the channel twice??), and set its output to the DR 008 (which has Dry Studio Kit loaded). I set SONAR's MIDI...

    What sound card to buy?

I'm frustrated with my Audigy2, and I want to add a dedicated DAW card to my system to improve performance. Here's what I have, and what I want to do with it--recommendations much appreciated! I'm hoping to spend about $300 or less. Computer Dell P4 @ 2.4 GHz 2 40 GB 7200 ATA 100 Hard Drives...

    Entering MIDI drums by keyboard?

I just ordered an Evolution MK-361C and the Drumkit from Hell samples. I think this will work for me as far as sound and flexibility, but now I've got (yet another) batch of software and hardware to break in. Anybody got any tips/tutorials on this combo? Thanks, LJ

    Drum programming in Sonar 2

Thanks, everybody. I listened to the samples on the DFH website and was amazed. I ordered it last night--can't wait to mess with it. How do you load it into the DR 008?

    Drum programming in Sonar 2

OK, my MK-361C ships today. Now, tell me about the "Drumkit from Hell" . . . Will it work with the version of the DR 008 that ships with SONAR 2 XL? Also, is there a good tutorial for this method anywhere? I've been trying and erring a lot.

    Entering MIDI drums by keyboard?

That might be the best route--but, like I said, I need a direct-to-USB product, as I don't have a MIDI port on my (wretched) SB Audigy2. Any recommendations for a direct-to-USB keyboard controller? LJ

    Entering MIDI drums by keyboard?

That looks like a lot of fun, but I'm not a drummer. It might be useful to bang out the general groove, then edit it in the piano roll, though. I suppose an advantage of going with the keyboard would be the ability to play keyboard parts as well. Dang, I have a lot to think about (and a...

    Entering MIDI drums by keyboard?

Thanks for the replies, it's really helpful. Somebody just recommended SlicyDrummer and Fill-in Drummer to me. He said that they are far superior to (and easier than) "two finger" drumming. They plug into the DR 008 as pads and do all sorts of things. Does anybody have experience with those...

    Entering MIDI drums by keyboard?

Hi, all. I'm a guitar player trying to work my way up to writing and recording more complex songs. I'm trying to get away from using SmartLoops and other "packaged" drum software, and am working with the fXpansion DR 808 that ships with Sonar 2 XL (I'm moving up from Guitar Tracks Pro). I...

    Basic mixing/processing questions

Hi, all. I've been experimenting with home recording for a while, and I've had a lot of fun with trial and error--well, mostly error. I'd like to add to that by learing some of the basics more systematically. Can anyone point me to a link or a book that would cover these points? 1. An...

    Preamp recommendations for DAW?

Hi, all. I'm looking for the best (affordable) way to mic my amps and acoustic instruments. I'm working in Cakewalk's Sonar 2 and Guitar Tracks Pro. So far, I've been recording guitars exclusively through a Johnson J-Station into my Audigy2, which is actually sounds quite good, but I'm also...

Weird "flanging" effect on recorded tracks

Thanks for the response--I think you hit it. So, the fix is to change the input selected under the Record tab from "What U Hear" to "Analog mix" and uncheck in the "Source" tab everything but "Line In"? That appears to be the only way to isolate the line in, which is my source. LJ

Weird "flanging" effect on recorded tracks

I recently moved my recording software (Guitar Tracks Pro) to a new PC (Dell w/P4, Audigy2, 512MB RAM, 7200 spin ATA100 HD, running XP). The first tracks I lay down sound fine, but once I get up to four or so, the whole mix starts "flanging" from speaker to speaker and in and out of phase. The...
