which is better and why? I'm looking at the Presonus Firepod and Firebox and right now, and I was wondering if I can just go an internal sound card route? what are the pros and cons for each and which do you prefer? thanks

    recording in a non-soundproof room

dear lord that's expensive  I've been using the V-Amp 2 this whole time and want to switch to mics, that's all. I hate the tone I get from my V-Amp 2 so I was thinking about getting a cardboard or plywood box and making a small recording "box" out of it.

    if I bought a Shure SM57.....

can I plug it directly into my DI box (Tascam US-122) and into the computer or would I need a mic pre-amp right after the mic? also, what's a good mic pre-amp that has a USB interface for a home studio (i'm on a budget) thanks
