Help me choose an interface please

Well Dave since my aged and abused hearing taps out at 10KHz with lots of treble rolloff all the way down to 3Khz, and enough gritty distortion to make any carbon microphone drool with envy, maybe POTS specs are just what the doctor ordered. I bought a set of Behringer B215XL FOH for my...

Help me choose an interface please

Ah, okay then this is along the lines of their field recorder where the interface is designed to handle the full dynamic range of the analog front end so there’s no need to adjust an input attenuator and risk clipping. I’m still not understanding why it would be flat to 80KHz unless they are...

Help me choose an interface please

What a great response to my post. You guys are the best. Well the voting seems to favor Focusrite. I had assumed as much since it seems to be what everyone is buying and the box is metal. Thanks for your input everyone. I'll get that one. Regarding the Zoom, the reason I'm not believing the...

Help me choose an interface please

For home studio/bedroom solo recording and podcast where there's already a Zoom Q2N HD camcorder and an iPhone 11 pro available with several small mixers to choose from -- Any opinions on the Zoom interface: https://zoomcorp.com/en/us/audio-interface/audio-interfaces/uac-232/ versus the...

Is this mix fatiguing? Or are my ears toast?

I really liked it, but I agree that something is off and it is not just the dryness. The vocals and guitars are a little heavy in the low end. The spatial feeling in the reference recording is not all EQ though. Acoustics are central. The dry mix is entirely a matter of personal style. What...

Mastering analog tape recordings onto cd recorders?

Your tape machine will only last so long before it is no longer a backup copy, and tapes get damaged accidentally. So do CDs, especially the ink dye type that flake off bits of music now and then. Also consider a media player for your car instead of CDs. Save you a ton of work in the long run.

    Experiences with mic shields?

I know what you mean. I jammed with a drummer who broke a stick at every practice and gave me two day tinnitus. They replaced me with someone who complained less. The visual impact of Charlie's massive PA and lights in small bars is amusing, but the sound is excellent without being deafening...

    Multitrack Recording With A Tablet

I have an Air 2 and I mix for a live band with it using Master Fader and the DL1608. I would like to do some high quality multitrack recording of the band too but complete noob with no idea. I just bought my iPad a few months ago so I could help the band with the FOH mix, and I do not even have...

    Experiences with mic shields?

One other thing, sound diffracts around obstables, including even the human voice as it leaves the human head, or so I saw in a video once where a woman twirls in an anechoic chamber and the low level of her voice that is audible from behind her is attributed to diffraction more than to her...

    Experiences with mic shields?

Total noob here (just about) has no idea why or how? Sensitivity is a linear thing. A less sensitive mic may be better for high SPL? but probably does nothing at all about room acoustics. What you described is a shielded/damped mic and that is different? I can make a few guesses. Most...

If I gave anyone that impression, it was completely unintentional.

    Experiences with mic shields?

I have a mic shield issue, but it is a live sound situation, not a home studio. I am noob/amateur at this audio thing. My expertise is electronics, not recording. I mix live sound for East Crescent. The drummer provides the PA and most of the amps, including two small guitar amps with acrylic...

    Experiences with mic shields?

Maybe a piece of decent foam wrapped in the same general shape would work OK, but it will not do the same exact job. The contours and structure of the foam matter. Thicker foam would probably be required to do a similar job with less specific engineering. A windscreen is designed for an entirely...

Subwoofer crossover with full range mains

Here is some video of my first live outdoor gig mixing sound with East Crescent. The Mackie mains are crossed to the aux fed subs at 100Hz with a 'faked' non-Linkwitz-Riley crossover in the DL1608. I added some LFE boost to the subs and added some minor graphic cut near 100Hz to compensate...

Subwoofer crossover with full range mains

Yeah, you got me pegged.;) I am used to tuning circuitry. I think it is OK to just run with the setup as-is, and concentrate on learning to EQ various instruments. There should be some notes here on the forum on that. I could use some background info on setting up gates and compression also...

Zoom R24 - recording a live mix on unused channels -- without feedback???

https://www.zoom-na.com/sites/default/files/products/downloads/pdfs/R24_operationManual_english.pdf My neighbor has a Zoom R24 that he uses for recording and mixing simultaneously during practice or live performance. Unfortunately, the channels he records on are usually the built-in...

Subwoofer crossover with full range mains

The prior reply (#42) got held for moderation. If this one appears first, the thread could be somewhat confusing. The drummer wants to upgrade the mains to the K12.2 on pole mounts for better projection over the audience, and spare his back from hauling those extremely heavy Mackie 3-way mains...

Subwoofer crossover with full range mains

The second gig was outdoors and the sound was far more transparent, warts and all. We crossed the subs at 100Hz at the drummer's suggestion despite the attenuation in the guitars:guitar: on the E string from not being in the subs, but I barely noticed the attenuation of the E string while I was...

Subwoofer crossover with full range mains

The first gig with the new subs was a private party at a pub and we crossed the subs at 80Hz to keep the guitars out of the aux-fed subs.:guitar: The new subs have a more solid bottom,:spank: but I suspect that is due primarily to the new sub's internal DSP EQ flattening the response compared to...
