Sooooooo tired of fake drum threads.

I have both V-Drums and my 6 Piece Acoustic kit. I generally only play my acoustic kit and record with it. I only play my v-drums if I have to spend a lot of time practicing something over and over. It gives my wife a break from the noise. I do agree there should be a separate category for...

    How to record percussion (bongos)

Don't forget to ensure your bongs are properly tuned. I use 2x 57's on a stereo bar run through a tube preamp and a tube compressor. Great results.

Recording Car Exhaust - Clipping and Gaps

I can only comment on what I have done in the past. 2 x C414's in stereo 12inches from the exhaust pipe., offset so the exhaust blast doesn't create wind noise. It worked well for us, however we ere just trying to capture an idling car at 500 RPM. We were in the empty parking lot of the studio...

I have experienced this too. A lot of my 90's gear started failing by the mid 2000's. By then, lot's of things were moving to the DAW so some gear I didn't repair. Some things I was able to repair myself or pay a small cost for repair. Items that have failed. - Quad Channel Noise Gate - 2...

    Limiter/Compressor WHILE Recording?

Yes, I compress on the way in for Bass, mic'd guitar amp, acoustic guitars, vocals, aux percussion, etc. I prefer using outboard gear for this rather than in the box.

    New, Old Stock Headphones Question

So I've been using the same pair of headphones for the past 25 years. I won't say the make/model as that's not the point. They get used daily. I loved them so much I bought a new spare pair around 16 years ago and put them away for a rainy day. Maybe that was a bad idea. Well it's finally...

Ear Protection & Drums. How Loud Is Too Loud?

No need for an SPL meter. It you play in a live band, you need hearing protection. I played in a live band for 25 years and I ALWAYS played with industrial ear protectors (30 db reduction). It's a no brainer. I was the drummer. I would even wear my industrial ear muffs at live shows. My band...

Isolation Box for Bass Amp. Is it Possible ??????

So I recently built a guitar isolation box within my closet of my studio (spare bedroom). It works amazingly well. When I play/record all I can hear is the pick hitting the strings. My wife says she can't even hear it in other parts of the house. I would love to make something similar for a...

    Static In My Signal Chain

I recently connected a new piece of outboard gear, but I'm getting slight static in my signal chain. I took a photo of the set up. Any ideas as to why I might be getting static and the occasional signal drop ? I can't for the life of me figure out why this would be happening. Very Frustrating!!

Check Out My YouTube Channel if you have a moment

I've had a youtube channel for a while now. I typically record covers. I'm not a singer, so I usually find isloated vocal tracks and record my own music around it and make a video to it. Let me know what you think. Anyhoo. MORE THAN A FEELING was my last video YouTube JESSICA by the Allman...

FOSTEX R8 chewing up Tapes ???

I agree, I think it's the tape itself. The problem was occurring with older stock tape as seen on the left. The one on the right is newer stock and plays fine.

FOSTEX R8 chewing up Tapes ???

So I finally decided to pull my FOSTEX R8 out of the closet and transfer all my old 1/4" tapes into DAW. The machine needed a bit of servicing after sitting for so long, but otherwise is working ok. Except for .......... After playing an entire tape through, I'm getting 2 things: - brown tape...
