Where do you start your mixes from?

I start with drums. Always. I usually record some drums from the internet and use them as a single track(though I would need to do more than that for a finalized quality recording).

Headroom for mp3 conversion or what?

I wish I knew. My multi track recorder seems to blow the volume up over 200% after I master and normalize the song file.

    I'm still having fun :)

I see that the solo lead is kind of shrill, but I like the effect. Maybe soften the sound of it. Otherwise, I like it. I'm wondering what drums would do to the song. Hmm...

Short clip singing Chandelier by Sia, have I improved from my last post?

Extremely soft. There is nothing wrong with that. Do you think you can do an electric version? Cool, though.

    Jolene cover - Feedback?

I know one thing you should do next...get a band and become famous. Sounds good without music. If there is anything off pitch, I have not noticed. Smooth.

    New Alt-Rock Song

Feel free to critique and give opinions. If there is something the songs needs to change or improve, let me know. I did not use my autotuner on this for the vocals. I think the melody notes are mostly good, but you check it out and offer up your take. Thanks!

Do you/will you copyright your songs?

I will copyright them when I release them after completion. Why not?

How to analyze modern alternative and metal? And good songs I should analyze?

Alternative rock has a large collection of subgenres, as all rock does, but alt rock can sound extremely different. Usually metal will be metal, uf we compare modern metal songs to other modern metal songs, but alterntive rock has many forms that diversify the sound quite bit.

    Scaphoid - 3 song EP

I love this! It sounds so much like A Perfect Circle. Vocals would be cool to hear with this, too. Maybe Maynard could lend his?...

    That Rock Sound!

This cannot be rock because it has to have a 4/4 time signature to be rock and roll.

Altrock ballad that I'm writing. Need feedback.

Dude. Soundcloud sucks. I got 2 plays in a week and the one like I got was withdrawn---plus it seems there are only a bunch of fake robots on there. Some people don't even have music uploaded. I can't trust it.

Altrock ballad that I'm writing. Need feedback.

https://soundcloud.com/haez333888 Here. Check this out. It's the newest polished version with the entire song length included. Verses are not done yet, but choruses are. And I have a solo. Check it out and critique away, brotha.

I'm writing an alt rock ballad. need pointers, mates.

I don't have anything except a recorder. No preamp or outboard compressor with which I can do parallel compression I don't think. Lol

I'm writing an alt rock ballad. need pointers, mates.

Thanks, man. I'm working with at best a 3 band built in compressor in my Tascam DP03. Anything you can tell me about ratios, db level plus or minus, and threshold? Each on the low, medium, and high bands? Those are my only parameters of control for my compressor.

    Can i sing, at all?

Absolutely. You'd probably want to show more than that, but it sounds OK.

    Soulful rock ballad V.2

The vocals sound nice on their own, but too loud and overpowering the mix. Also, they should be eq'ed to sit better in the mix and some reverb on them would help.
