Recording someone who is on drugs.

Bob Dylan sure comes across with "authenticity" on "Everybody must get stoned". That's more what I would associate with it.

Recording someone who is on drugs.

There was an interesting study a few years back, that basically said you can develop skills while stoned, and the skill sets are somewhat separated. It explains the habitual drunks who can do ok on the sobriety tests. Theoretically, you could learn to play guitar left handed while sober and...

Recording someone who is on drugs.

Having had an accidental overdose of caffeine + epinephrin as a youngster (self medicating a bad asthma attack).... I remember laying there with my heart racing thinking... "People do this to themselves for FUN?!?!?" I get why people might use euphoria inducing drugs recreationally. I can get...

Recording someone who is on drugs.

Not true about Adderall and actually having ADHD. It helped with focus but it made me jumpy as all getout. It can totally get screwing up your timing. Especially if you're on prescription Adderal and then supplement a heavy caffeine addiction on top... there are other meds that can work with...

don't throw away those "almost right" takes

I'm pretty sure I was talking about layering, with multiple layers mixed low enough that they are just texture. As a distinct approach compared to the traditional L/R double track.

don't throw away those "almost right" takes

You guys that get it right the first time can just go back and record 3 or 4 more full length perfect takes.

don't throw away those "almost right" takes

that's pretty much how I end up with enough full length takes to do it. I like the idea as well, it factored in to my decision to ditch the PC and get a standalone recorder. Only the recorder keeps all those as separate files even if I just hit rewind, record play. Since the Zoom lacks midi...

    recording with acoustic drum loops

After playing a bit with the Big Fish loops provided by Zoom.. it kinda sucks if you're not writing to the patterns and are looking for patterns to fit your song instead. I think it would be worlds more usable if the loops weren't a stereo track of everything with a ton of room mic thrown in. I...

don't throw away those "almost right" takes

I dunno what I was thinking when I wrote that either. Whatever. What i was touting as 'novel' was the use, not as "double tracking" (as in the traditional two "identical" takes panned hard left and hard right), but adding in numerous takes as barely audible "shimmer". Some of those takes...

Using a mobile recorder for vocals

Mobile recorders are not inherently limited to built in mics. I've drug my Zoom R24 downstairs and out on the back porch to record acoustic guitar early in the morning. I'm not one to pick on your English (and this might be an English vs American usage) but as a point of clarification - at...

    Any Zoom G3 users?

Here's some demos. Henky Backer seems to be one of the more vocal (and helpful) proponents of the G3 and the Zoom recorders as well. Zoom G3 | Henky Backer

    Zoom R24 drum patterns

Parens is a common shortening of parentheses. It shows as (4) instead of 4 and in that case it can't be modified. But nowhere does the manual describe locking patterns. What is the common name for brackets, braces, and parentheses? - English Language & Usage Stack Exchange There isn't a zoom...

How do you make your acoustic guitar "shine"?

Essentially that's pretty similar to what an exciter does, except it clips and low passes the hpf signal instead of just compressing. (And in doing so adds synthesized hatmonics). It really is bordering on magic how well it works.

don't throw away those "almost right" takes

I was experimenting with double tracking acoustic guitar. While auditioning the takes, I cracked open all four takes. Just barely, like about as much of the distorted signal you would mix in if you were trying to create an exiter effect. Obviously results depend on your takes, but it was really...

    Zoom R24 drum patterns

I'm trying to make my own patterns but the bar length is in parens and apparently not editable. I had to copy a 4 bar pattern into the slot I wanted to program. The ProaudioDVDs tutorial seems to imply I can change it, as doea the menu. I also can't seem to copy sime patterns into some...

    Any Zoom G3 users?

I don't have a G3 but I do have an R24 which I believe has a G2 inside. I routinely record direct using the high z input and internal effects when recording late at night. The presets like everyone elses are mostly over the top, but with some minor tweaking it sounds pretty good.

How do you make your acoustic guitar "shine"?

I'll disagree with those blaming body design. Body design can certainly shape midrange and below, but most sparkle is directly radiated off the strings. I've got a baritone jumbo, which by some of the advice here you'd think would be lifeless as a wet dishrag. With new strings, it's plenty...

    recording with acoustic drum loops

I'm interested but still learning. I just got a Zoom R24 and it comes with a bunch of Big Fish loops. I need to learn the sequencer first. I'm with you on the pain for searching. In my case the loops come in 10bpm increments, and I'm wanting to try them now on a piece I recorded at 128bpm with...
