"There is one site for music promotion that may help to resolve your problem that is Musicians Atlas." Just curious, how would Musician's Atlas PROMOTE an artist, as opposed to simply offering services available for free from places like Reverbnation (eg hosting of tunes, web page, listing of...

Could have gone on a manned mission to Mars, had a game of Mars golf, got back to earth and done a world NASA promo tour, quicker than the time it took to reply! LOL!

    upload sites

Soundcloud seems pretty decent. You can either have the file open for everyone on the web to hear, or stipulate whether people can download it, or only stream, and also limit the actual users who can listen. www.soundcloud.com

    Eurovision Song Contest

Of course it's a dream, doesn't stop people entering, I don't see your point. That's your judgement. You don't like the Eurovision, don't watch. Other people might think YOU have poor taste in music! It's all subjective opinion. To those who don't like football everyone who watches the...

    Eurovision Song Contest

To escape the day job? To have their song performed in front of several hundred million audience? To make essential music biz contacts? To get noticed? Same reasons people enter American Idol is suppose.

There's no harm in letting other bands know about your music. After all, as well as being musicians, we're all music fans too! I do think MySpace spamming is pretty pointless nowadays. Maybe if you were one of the very first doing it when it first became popular and people weren't quite so...

    The Secret To Great Recordings

it used to be about "capturing a performance" - in the days when recordings were always about a group of musicians in a room running through a performance of a piece of music... But that changed somewhat with multitracking, and what followed... For example - One guy overlayering multiple...

    The Secret To Great Recordings

Hope he wasn't talking about taking a dump again? For my part... the secret to a great recording is the perfect marriage of a wonderful performance of some great material with the appropriate technical expertise to capture it. :-)

My songs are way too short.

Maybe short songs are your thing. Say what you have to say succinctly, then play the next song. Seek out the work of Wildman Fisher. Sometimes one verse and a chorus and it's done.

Anyone here obsessed with writing Beatles-quality songs?

i don't think it's healthy to be obesessed with anything. 'Steal' from everywhere, or if you prefer 'be influenced' by everything you listen to..then use it to create your own music. Trying to write material like those people will end up in a poor man's copy. Be yourself.

    Eurovision Song Contest

Used to be an open song writing contest here in the UK, baed on an entry and paying a fee. But in the past couple of years the door seems to have been closed and people like Andrew Loyd-Webber have been given the job of writing the tune. Another door closed to outsiders !

And why not... Artists singed to labels in the past had an army of people to handle promotion, leaving them free to concentrate on performance, recording and writing. Unfortunately the independent route means you've got to be jack of all trades (who said master of none?). That includes trying...

    Singing Drummers

Set the mic so it's right on his mouth. Use a noisegate, set the threshold really high, tell him to belt out his vocal loudly. tweak the settings so the gate hardly triggers when he just plays drums, only 'opens' when he sings close up in the mic. The gate will cut out anything but when he...

    Post your MySpace link

it is not TOTALLY pointless... it is a web presence, a web site, and people can hear your music on it. If people create a MySpace site thinking it will bring them fame fortune and fans, they're likely to be very disapointed. But it's still worth having as a web presence, simply becasue you'ere...

"promotional websites " Whilst those mentioned all worth having, none of these actively promote your music. They are just hosting sites. Promotion is about attracting people who wouldn't otherwise have found you, and usually involves a lot of hard work and/or spending money $$$$.

What's the purpose of a demo

I'd use the salesman analogy... If a salesman came to your home and produced a sample of the thing that he was trying to sell you and it was shoddy and fell apart in front of you would you buy it? The salesman argues that "Don't take any notice of that...It's only a demo, when we install the...
