    Share a songwriting tip/trick/technique.

I developed a brainstorming template that I use for writing songs. I developed this a couple of years ago based on a songwriting seminar that I went to. I basically codified my notes into a form which also acts as a sort of check to see if I have covered at lease some of the "typical" components...

Lest anyone think I am making things sound overly simple... I agree. If most beginners realized what hard work it is (to be good enough and visible enough to make a living at it) they would probably not even start. There are much easier and surer ways to make money if that is what one is after...

Vocal Recording: 1 take vs. punch-ins?

Just another thought or two... I used to have trouble capturing a vocal track I really liked. I think over the years I have figured out a few reasons for this... 1. I didn't really sound like I thought I sounded like. I grew up singing live in all sorts of environments (choir, bands, church...

Vocal Recording: 1 take vs. punch-ins?

I do a little vocal demo work. Typically I will rehearse the song so I know it and then I will lay down four or five lead vocal tracks. I usually use the last or second to the last one because I've gotten rolling by then. Maybe 45% of the time I use the track I select without punch-ins or comps...

    Do Lyrics Even Matter?

It really depends on what your goal is. If your goal is to feed your self from money you make as a songwriter you will be very skinny with lyrics like that ;).... If you are an incredibly talented artist who writes his own songs and your music is killer. You might not be so skinny :D From a...

I use MasterWriter and love it. MasterWriter will NOT make you a good or even better writer. It will however, IMVHO, give a good writer tools at their fingertips to help them be more efficient in the process. I have seldom used a rhyme from MasterWriter or any other rhymer that I specifically...

I think he said it CAN be done in one sitting, not that it always is. He is correct. I know people who can knock out a good song in 15 minutes. They are very naturally talented. However, most of the rest of us need to rewrite at least once. That is me for the most part. But I have also knocked...

best song writing thoughts occur at night...

I think this is very true. At least for me. I had a funny experience once. I had knee surgery and was prescribed vicodin as a pain killer. I would take one of these at nite before going to bed. I found I really enjoyed these and they seemed to open up my creativity. In fact, I got to enjoy them...

    Some song structure issues

From your post it sounds like you have written a lot of individual and not necessarily related verses and choruses. To try to piece these together may not be your best bet. A verse and a chorus in a song should generally work together as a single unit. And generally that means that the chorus...
