I'm using a drum machine and running it mono into a 12 track. What stereo effect will give it the best final sound?

I'm going to record a 'light' or 'poppy' sword metal band which has a great distorted tone figured out. My question is, is it best for the rythym track to be doubled and split, double mic the amp to two tracks and split or just a solid down the middle mono track?

I just downloaded the Leaf program yesterday and it's pretty cool. Very easy to use. Anyone have any good links to some free organic or acoustic sounding drum samples? Also, any advice on how to make the timing sound a little more human with a drum would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I have a Yamaha RY20 drum machine, which is pretty cool. But none of the drum sounds are organic or sound very real. Can I run it through some effects or compress it or soemthing to make it sound more crusty?

How do you use the 3 (6 I think I mean) stereo tracks on the D12? Do you record on the mono tracks then bounce to the stereo tracks? Do you record straight to the stereo tracks with, say, two mic's? Thaks for the input!
