what mic is good for recording Vocalist who scream/yell/growl

Screaming at least to me just seems like a vocal performance with a lot of "grit" to the sound. A singer like Pavorotti(sp) uses no grit but a singer like Sebastian Bach uses a combination of both. Although adding that grit does trash your voice some and if your tone is all grit well then you...

    Preamps, buy?

I'm looking for a pre as well...thanks for the heads up on the Presonus. I don't mean to hijack the thread but what would you recommend as a USB solution?? I know I have a cheaper soundcard and even though it's given me no problems so far I'm afraid that it won't be worth getting a good...

Marshall microphones for vocals....yay or nay??

Looked up the price on that one.....ouch. I guess an excellent mic-pre could make alot of mediocre mics sound good. Thanks for your input:)

Marshall microphones for vocals....yay or nay??

I'm in the process of vamping up my crummy home recording setup to do lead vocals and backing vocals. I tried doing some takes with an SM57 and well....the results were less than spectacular. I need a condenser mic I believe to help out with things....something more sensitive that will give me...

Built an iso cab but it don't sound too good...

Well the I ended up lining the whole inside with a thick carpet instead of foam cause the foam just wasn't cutting it as good seemed like. It still sounds thin with the lid closed though. The only way I can get it to sound better unfortunately is to leave the lid half open...which kinda...

Built an iso cab but it don't sound too good...

Well I forget the exact dimensions but when the cab is sitting against the back wall of the iso cab there is roughly 6-8" in front of it 4 inches on either side and about 5 inches above it of spare space. Not much extra space I guess. I'm not done putting the dampening in yet on the back wall...

Built an iso cab but it don't sound too good...

Well I built an iso cab out of 1.5" MDF for my 2x12 cab to record guitar in my apartment. It blocks sound coming out real real well....but...it doesnt' sound too good IMO. There's not alot of extra space in there but I figured if I dampened it some and just put the mic rihgt up to the grill I...

Looking for a sound-card breakout box setup that will work with VIA chipset and WinXP

The more I'm reading the more I'm finding out that the VIA chipset sucks for recording...seems like I chose the wrong upgrade option on my computer. Is there any good soundcards with breakout boxes that work well with WinXP and the AMD VIA chipset?? I don't wanna spend a ton(as usual) but I...

MOTU 324....anyone get this to work with an AMD setup??

I cannot get the driver to start properly on my Windows XP box. I've tried the drivers on the CD, the website and niether work. I'm using an AMD setup with a VIA chipset. I know this chipset has some issues with some soundcard setups but I'm not sure about this one... The online support...

Is it necessary to have 2 hard-drives for Sonar 2.0??

Well it seems that some people are addressing the issue of safety of data while others are adressing speed/latency issues. I'm not too worried about data safety.....just speed issues mostly along with multi-tracking. I could always try one drive first then see how things go with that.

Is it necessary to have 2 hard-drives for Sonar 2.0??

Pro-tools requires two hard-drives on your computer to run or at least on drive dedicated to music. Is this the case with Sonar as well? Will multitracking performance/mixdowns suffer unless I have a second 7200 rpm hard-drive??

How can I lower latency in SONAR XL 2.1?

Thanks for the welcome!!! Well there are workarounds....going in through a small mixer first then to the hardware inputs. As long as it's not horrible I can deal....I'm thinking about getting a Sonar setup along with MOTU 1224 hardware. I guess this is a pretty common combo so I'm guessing it...

How can I lower latency in SONAR XL 2.1?

can I get "no" latency Don't mean to hijack the thread but is there a no-latency monitoring feature in cakewalk like there is in Pro-tools??? As long as I can hear what I'm recording with no delay I would be happy getting this setup...
