    Power Pop

Yep, definitely old guy music! Thanks for the listen.

    Power Pop

Thanks for the listen and your suggestions. I hadn’t thought about the Secret Agent Man connection but you’re right… must have gone to that change automatically.

    Power Pop

I found this old, unmixed song from 2011 while cleaning up my hard drive, so I spent a day fixing it up. It's sort of a fun 80's or 90's power pop number. Looks like I used my old Line 6 POD 2.0 for the guitars. I still have that thing laying around on a shelf somewhere... I know the...

Some Original Material For A Change

Nice song - it's great when you can come up with something like this spontaneously! Only comment on the mix is that the drums sound very dry, and the guitar is quite ambient/echoey. Maybe that's why folks are saying it sounds like synth drums. Thought about adding a little keyboard or...

    Shadow of a Dead Rose

Great tune and arrangement. Lots of energy and I love the vocal harmonies. Only nit is that the piano (?) sounds fairly synthetic especially in the first couple of minutes. I kept thinking how much better it would sound with a real acoustic piano, or at least a VST with more depth and ambience.

    Indie song - Sunday Driving

Thanks for the listen. To clarify, this is my first attempt at this song, but I've certainly mixed other songs before. Although rarely well ;)

    Indie song - Sunday Driving

I put this together over the last week based on a fun riff in DADGAD tuning. The style is sort of 90's indie rock - maybe Yo La Tengo, Magnetic Fields, or a poppier version of Sebadoh. This is my first attempt to mix it so any feedback is welcome. In particular I'm wondering if the bass needs...

New Track - Kinda weird Orchestral Prog

I like it - it's got a little Genesis and van der Graf Generator influence thrown in, but also very contemporary. Maybe the synth and bass are a little "buzzy" . There's something about the vocals that could use work but I can't really figure out what should change. They're pretty dry -...

Where the grasses lie - Feedback required

Nice composition and playing - reminds me a bit of the band Real Estate. Agree with the others that the EQ is a bit muddy and the drums are distant. I think cutting some low-mid from the guitar, and maybe some lows from the bass would help. Maybe experiment with a bit of compression on the...

Acoustic rock - New song - feedback requested

Thanks for the listen. I think I may retrack some of the vocals to get the harmonies a bit more exact. Not a resonator - just a cheap tinny Yamaha capoed. It’s definitely a throwback; then again half of what I hear on playlists are purposely retro, so maybe what’s old becomes new again.

Acoustic rock - New song - feedback requested

A new song I recorded this weekend. The guitar solo at the end is a bit of train wreck so I may re-record that part. But I'd appreciate any feedback on the mix. My Dog by jmDC | Jm DC | Free Listening on SoundCloud

    Magical Mixing Plugins

I can’t live without Variety of Sound’s Thrillseeker compressor. Fantastic on vocals. I don’t think they are still developing plugins, but you can still download the old ones.

    Cycle Song, Psych-folk

Thanks for the comments on the pan & vocals. Yes the vox are doubled & hard panned, so I could fix that. Of course it also sounds like our music tastes have nothing in common, so there’s that ;). Saw Bon Iver in concert last year & Grizzly Bear is up this week...

    Cycle Song, Psych-folk

Would appreciate some feedback on the mix. I do love the reverb-y sound of Fleet Foxes & other indie bands, but find it really tough to get that without the mix sounding like mud. Cycle Song

    Original jangle-pop song needs help

Thanks again for the feedback. Sounds like re-tracking from scratch would be in order (although that also sounds like more work than a weekend hobby warrants...)

    Original jangle-pop song needs help

Here's another shot at the mix... https://soundcloud.com/jm67dc/starsinsideyourhome-mix3 In response to the comments, I made the drums more prominent, dropped the vocals & lead guitar a tad, and tried to cut the mud from the bass. Let me know if you think it's an improvement.

    Original jangle-pop song needs help

Thanks for the inputs everyone - much appreciated. I'm working on a new mix with more aggressive drums, and I've tried to make the bass punchier by boosting the mids & cutting the low-end rumble. Easlern - Yep, I usually DI the bass with decent results, but this time it sounded too boomy, so...

    Original jangle-pop song needs help

Thanks for the listen and the advice - I can work on removing mud from the drums and bass & then repost. The "tambourine thing" you mention is a tambourine.
