    Clipping vs. Clipping [VIDEO]

We released an episode of Mix Tips a few months back on the many types of clipping. Clipping can be a little confusing to newbies because the same word is used for overloading the signal at multiple stages. I've been in this industry for a little while, and even I learned something while...

    Harrison Mixbus???

Thanks! Your PPC should handle it well. We have a lot of users running Mixbus on older machines. I run Mixbus on my netbook for demos, and it has a 1GHz AMD dual core processor with 2GB of RAM.

I've had a lot of luck with ORTF with a matched pair of pencil condensers. :guitar:

    Mixdown session - limiter questions

You have to mix with loudness in mind to keep your music from getting destroyed as you add gain. At the old mastering studio I worked at, good mixes needed very subtle processing before the limiter. I recommend using the limiter as the last processor in your chain. The EQ, multi-band, and...

    Recording electric guitars

Definitely true. FWIW, I almost always record with two mics, but often find myself choosing one over the other when mixing. It's almost always the 57 :)

    Recording electric guitars

I imagine the amp sounds good when standing a bit away from it. How close do you have the mic to the speaker? A condenser could work better for this amp...placing it back a little could help too. Adding a little bit of compression could beef it up some.

    Boundary or Individual Mics?

A single mic for each person would be best, and would probably ensure the best sound quality. A boundary mic may pick up too much background noise.

shure sm7b in bedroom or living room

It also depends on what you want to do with the recording. If you want to add artificial reverb, you want to record as dry as possible (bedroom, closet, etc.). If you like the natural reverb of the living room, it may work fine and need no plug-ins.

Issues with my audio interface/sound card

Are you running a ton of plug-ins / effects while recording? That can cause errors in playback with a low buffer size + delay compensation. Some plug-ins can get rather CPU intensive...

Need your opinion on noise reduction

Not sure if you tried this, but sometimes this noise is related to the battery charger. Try recording audio with the laptop unplugged (if you haven't already :))
