    Flutter Emergency!!!

The pinch roller on my old Sony machine is actually deformed a little. It sat not being used since Vietnam and when I got it a few years ago, the tapes played fluttered. I noticed the pinch roller was slightly deformed as if it was squeezed. New pinch rollers for your machine are about $34...

The order of the Big Three

I go all over the place. EQ, Comp, Verb Comp, EQ, Verb Verb, Comp, EQ etc. You have to be careful. Do you want to EQ the compressor, or do you want to compress the EQ? Do you want to verb the EQ, or do yo want to EQ the verb? Reverb always seems to end up last though, because I usually...

    Too much thought

    Great point though.

    Too much thought

Interesting discussion going here. Do you think the average everyday person, who is not an engineer, notices such finite and minute details, or does he or she just listen to it in general?

    Too much thought

This thread is not about a specific style of mixing or a specific technique, but mixing in general. I came into this field a few years ago with the mindset that engineers focus too much on what they do. I've always had the mindset that there is a thing as too much production. Then I started...

Using ribbons in a live context

I have been wondering about this as well. The Beyer m160 and 130 obviously make sense to me. However, I've always been a fan of the old Town Hall Party shows from the 1950s. There are several RCA 77s in there. They didn't use monitors, but I know they used some sort of horn for the mains...

What mixer do you have and which do you love?

I'm a big Allen and Heath fan. I'm going to be getting a ZED24 for my mobile recording unit real soon. My dream mixer would be the Yamaha LS9.

    Amd 38-504

I pulled them apart today to check them out and the wires inside are snapped at the hinge. Just so happens that there is probably enough extra wire in the casing of the mic to resolder to the switch and/or the plug. I might just bypass the switch, like I did for my 664.

    Amd 38-504

I went to the Southern Ohio Guitar Show this past Sunday and picked up a couple of AMD 38-504 mics for $50. These mics are Japan made and are the little sister who wants to be like her big brother, the EV 664. They don't have the ports in them, just black paint. Both need some serious work as...

    New Members: Introduce Yourself Here!

Hi folks. I'm a 21 year old from southeastern Ohio who is going to school for audio engineering. I thought I'd just join up and read some of the cool things that are being posted here. I'll probably lurk more than post, but I'll contribute if I feel like I should (why talk when there's...
