I use a mesa triple rectifier w/mesa 4x12 vin 30's but I play mostly heavy stuff. I also have an old marshall jcm 800 2210 that I push through 2-greenbacks when I want a classic metal tone. The best of both worlds for what I do.

I guess I could just put one of the mesa cabs speakers in the randall but I'm still left with the boxy tone of the randall cab. I'll try that but still interested in your feedback on the iso cab mod.

I agree. I am a metal head but believe less is more. the more you add to your signal chain the more diluted it sounds. I've never tried to run any pedals after the preamp. would that work with a tube screamer?

tube amps are the best for tone IMHO but a solid state amp can also sound pretty good. its in the ear of the beholder. to make a cheap solid state amp sound big and full you have to separate the tones bass mids highs layer them and pan them differently. but record with low gain because the gain...
