Mixing feedback for a short (0:53) rock song (w/ breakdown of equipment and tracks)

+1 on the overheads. I imagine the harshness could be deafening when using headphones. The biggest thing for me in that mix what the kick drum being in the background. You can tell it's there but there's no real punch to it. It needs some balls to it. Guitars sound great.

"Bye Bye" by a friend of mine.

I wrote and recorded this song in my first year of Uni (5 years ago). Didn't know much then and wasn't very good at recording mixing. So, I decided to re mix this song. I did all the music but asked my flat mate to write the lyrics. I want to ask for some feedback mainly to do with vocal...

my bounced files are longer than original

The import function gives you a chance to convert the file to the session parameters. It can also move the audio files in to the session's folder to keep everything tidy.

AKG D112 vs Shure Beta 52

The D6 was my favourite for my style of music, but not very versatile. The beta 52 sounded nice and thumpy in that vid.

    Slate Digital's 'Trigger'

Which drum sample pack does the Platinum version come with? I'm getting confused with how it's worded. As far as I can see, it comes with a Steven Slate sample pack but then they sell even more of his packs on there as add-ons.

But everyone already has the Gold bundle!

    Slate Digital's 'Trigger'

Sounds like a life saver in that case! I found the demo download and have that at the moment and using it for a few mixing jobs I'm doing from live recordings. The pay off from these bands will be enough for me to buy the full thing so I can't wait for that! A few weeks yet before I get the...

New metal track from my band, let me know what you think!

If autotune isn't something you would normally use, I suggest downloading a demo version to use once in your project and bounce the tuned version. Good way to save you that $250 if you don't think you'll need it again. +1 on melodyne. I've tried that and Waves Tune in uni before and much...

    Slate Digital's 'Trigger'

I'm currently trying to find a reason not to get it. Just wish they had a trial version available rather than just a £140 (approx) purchase.

    Please listen to my Mix

I think if you are looking towards radio play then I'd suggest getting in to a studio. But this mix is really good! I second the motion of turning down the guitar reverb level. The bass is quite an intrusive part of the mix. There seems to be a bit of a build up in the mid range of the EQ. I...

New metal track from my band, let me know what you think!

I think you should look more towards getting rid of the mud on the individual tracks before you start playing with the master EQ. The guitars sound like they could do with some subtractive EQ around the 200-500Hz mark. Don't quote me on that specifically! And when the overheads are laid bare in...

    Recording with a Live desk

Just in case anyone is interested I've been told about this A&H desk.. GS-R24 / GS-R24M | ALLEN & HEATH // WORLD CLASS MIXING Firewire interface, awesome preamps and EQ's. Seems like a good way to go.

    Slate Digital's 'Trigger'

Does anyone use this bit of software? From the video on their website it looks pretty sweet. I've used drumagog before and didn't really reckon much to it, but this has really caught my eye. I'm just wondering why this may seem so good and yet rivals such as the aforementioned drumagog are a...

    Production "tricks"?

Reverse reverb is a favourite of mine ever since I heard it on a Twisted Sister song years ago (can't remember which one is was, though). Automated filter on either the drum buss or just the snare, moving up the frequency scale to a build up or come down. I think this really helps out a longer...

    THis Vocal EFEECT?!?!?!?!!?!

I'm assuming you mean when there is singing rather than rapping. Major autotuning.

Live Mixing and Recording using Analog Mixers

There's no formula for what you want. I can't tell you to have your lead vocal fader at -7dB and your slide guitar panned 62% left at -5.5dB. It all depends on what your set up is. You'll have to have some form of monitoring system in place so you can play through a few times whilst an engineer...

How much automation have you used?

Lots of volume automation on rhythm guitars, solos and vocals. Even mixed a track where I had to automate the volume on almost every kick hit - that was a fun day in which many cans of beer were drunk! I've recently started automating the volume on drum overheads too.. something I hadn't really...

    Need some Help

Are the sounds built in to those? If so, there's probably not that much besides a little EQ or comp to change the sound. If not, then keep adjusting whichever synth you are using as much as you can until you get what you want. Or change the synth. Or program in a midi part with a VST. It's all...

    Recording with a Live desk

The ICE-16 looks great! And the fact that I could record all the gigs that the desk is used for without my laptop is the cherry on top.

Ozone 5 as a mixing tool

I've only had limited experience with OZone 4 - not on my computer so only had a little while to play with it - but I found it nice and easy to use, once I realized the presets weren't worth the effort. The only thing I didn't like about it was that whatever the crossover points on the multiband...
