    Upstairs Studio Build - Pics

I figured it had something to do with acoustic isolation...what product did you use, and can you get it at most home improvement retailers? I'm a LONG ways from building my own space but it's nice to know these little details well in advance. Thanks!

Open to suggestion - New studio build

Well, I figured I would cross that bridge once I know what space I have to work with. At least with an unfinished basement I can divide it up however I see fit, run my own electrical to meet my requirements, treat the subfloor space, move utilities, etc much easier.

Open to suggestion - New studio build

Must be nice to have the flexibilty to consider all these things...I'm on the verge of selling my home and looking for a new place that includes space for my varied hobbies. We are in no position for new construction. I'm swaying my partner towards an unfinished basement so I have more...

    Upstairs Studio Build - Pics

What's the brown/red putty on the electrical boxes, and what is it for? I may be selling my home soon and one of the key features is my next home is a space to dedicate to music production. I'm imagining a slightly larger space for the artists, thier instruments and equipment with a smaller...

    Acoustic Guitar Recording 101

I've been recording an old friend's acoustic efforts with (what I beleive to be) very good results using the following approach: Room: My living room. Couches, coffee table, full carpet, textured 8 ft. ceiling, drywall and paint. Instrument: Takamine Jasmine with whatever strings he can find...

How much will it cost to build a home studio like this ...

Not intended to be insulting, but I've learned if I can't identify the things pictured I probably don't know how to use them and thus shouldn't buy them. I learned that building hot rods out of mail-order catalogs. I thought I wanted to be a recording producer but I've realized money can't buy...

    What equipment should I buy

Something I've learned...a good DAW (digital audio workstation...your Macbook w/ProTools) can replace the rack stuff in most situations. Tell us more about your recording situation (One mic, one guitar vs. 70-peice orchestra and chamber choir makes a big difference) and the space you are working...

    Mastering: The DIY Guide

Thank you Massive Master for the thoughtful answer! That makes more sense than eight pages of how some other guy's crude "guide" is so wrong and the humor that followed.

    Upgrading PC for pro audio???

I was bored at work and threw this list together in about 20 minutes...just like mastering an album, or skinning a cat, everyone's got thier own way of doing it. The original poster didn't specify thier requirements very well so I went with what I would want in my own studio. That's where the...

    Mastering: The DIY Guide

My question is rather broad...what is "mastering"? Without going into all the how-to, could someone please define what the action or process is? I understand it's near the end of a road that looks something like this: Musician(s) perform > we record on one (or more) tracks > the tracks get...

    Mastering: The DIY Guide

So I read the entire thread and still have no clue what exactly mastering is or how this thread got sticky. I did however learn that an individual TRIED to answer one of my questions and got ripped apart by people who didn't offer any usable answers themselves. In sum, this whole thread is very...

    Upgrading PC for pro audio???

Just peeking around at tigerdirect (bored at work). If I had $1K to spend, here's what I would build: B69-5423 ::GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AMD 900 Series Motherboard and AMD FD6100WMGUSBX FX-6100 Processor Bundle Price: $359.99 G452-0216 ::GIGABYTE GV-N210D3-1GI GeForce 210 Video Card - 1GB...

    Upgrading PC for pro audio???

...if you know what you're looking at. No offense intended, I don't know you at all so please don't get butt-hurt. Like every other subject on this forum, it's easy to spend a ton of money trying to make things work together. I built a great computer (after reading a couple of books and a few...

    Low Frequency Definition

Just me thinking out loud...if 20 hz is low then yes, 10 hz would be lower. What I wonder is where does the audible spectrum stop? Can the human ear detect frequencies below 20 hz? 10 hz? I dunno...

    I have decided..

I'll agree to that. There was at one time a production company in Wichita, KS that would find good local bands/musicians and set them up with the craziest places...in abandoned buildings, parking lots, city parks, etc and record thier performances audio and visual. They gave these musicians a...

    Pictures of my studio renovation.

I'm in the same boat...try to get things wrapped up before the kids come home from school! No amount of treatments will keep an 8 and 4 yr old out of the mic.
