Alternative to interface and hauling gear...

Hi there, I've been successfully recording the two bands I'm in (three piece & two piece) using a TASCAM US800, great simple device I purchased a while back thanks to this forum. I tend to use minimum of 4 tracks, all the way up to the available 8 depending on gear, room, etc. Its been heaps of...

How do you record a song? What are your steps?

I'm a complete noob, and just mic up everyone with the mics going through to a multitrack interface, and hit record. Would love to know how you all manage to record each instrument on its own. eg. If starting with drums, do you have the rest of the band/musicans playing along so the drummer can...

Stick to whichever genres you tend to listen to and enjoy the most imo :) .... even if your voice isn't suited to that style, it could end up having interesting results with your unique stamp on it.

Audio Interfaces 8 in 4 out - what happens to remaining 4?

So have I misinterpreted audio interfaces that say things such as '8 in 4 out'? As I thought this meant the device had 8 inputs, with 4 outputs being the only ones that could be recorded to separate tracks in the DAW. Soooo, if i understand you two right, what it actually means is that those 8...

Audio Interfaces 8 in 4 out - what happens to remaining 4?

Sorry for the dumb question. I'm kinda confused. Audio Interfaces such as Tascam US800 and US600 state I/O is 8/4. If you utilized all 8 inputs to record a jam, what happens to the other 4? ... .and what's the point in using them anyways if they have no output to your DAW? Or is the 'output'...
