    mixing help poverty

I'm not able to listen again right now, but are you double-tracking the guitars at all? Record the same guitar part twice and pan them hard left and right. That's how most people get a full guitar sound.

I really, REALLY like those vocals. How did you get such a good sound? What equipment did you use? Regarding the other parts of the mix, I don't really have any complaints. Like heatmiser said, the drums might be a little loud, but it doesn't sound bad at all.

    Pocketman (Pokemon Theme Song parody)

I usually mute the room mic entirely. Most of the "body" comes from the overheads, and any reverb that I add

    Pocketman (Pokemon Theme Song parody)

It's all part of the style, really. I tried to emulate the original pretty closely while also adding my own flare. Glad you like it though. I'll see what I can do about the vocals.

    Pocketman (Pokemon Theme Song parody)

Well, I'll be using EZDrummer for my more serious music as well (can't really afford a real drummer, considering I already have to hire brass musicians since basically everything I play is ska) So I'd appreciate some advice on how to make the drums sound less cheesy, haha

What don't you like about the drums? And yeah, I'm in the process of recording more "serious" music too. I just seem to do better on stupid things for some reason.

    Pocketman (Pokemon Theme Song parody)

My friends and I are going to be starting a YouTube channel with a bunch of various flash series. One of these is Pocketman, a bad ripoff of Pokemon that is set in Soviet Russia. Out of context, it makes absolutely no sense. In context, it hardly makes any sense either. So just focus on the mix...

Please listen and help me improve! Thanks!

I really like the guitar sound, actually. It wouldn't work for all types of music, but for this song in particular, it sounds awesome. It actually sounds a little bit like a live performance.

    thoughts on my recording

Haha, it definitely sounds indie. I can tell you that much. Is it weird that I think this sounds sort of cool? I can't tell what any of the words are, but still. It actually sounds interesting enough to make me want to keep listening. You still need to get better equipment, but for what you...

    Mixing in headphones

From what I understand, mixing in headphones would be a good idea if people were only listening to your songs through headphones. But all the listening methods are just so different, from home speaker systems to cars to PMPs, that your mixes could end up sounding amazing on your computer through...

I'm not saying that someone with a C2D PC should upgrade just for the sake of upgrading; I'm saying that it doesn't make much sense to buy outdated components now. It's much smarter to spend the money on an LGA 1155 motherboard and cpu, since that's what's current. It might seem more...

If they stayed current, technology would cease to move forward. If you're like me, you like to upgrade every 1-2 years, but for the average user, getting a new computer every 5 years will do. If you want to save money on future upgrades, I suggest building the computer yourself. It'll be...

    Limitations of GarageBand?

Garageband is fun for dicking around with when I'm in a position where I'm forced to use a Mac. I guess it works for simpler things, but it's too simple even for me, and I'm somewhat of a beginner.

I've been out of the loop for a few months, but last time I checked, only i7's use hyperthreading.

There really isn't any sense in buying a dual core nowadays. Quad cores are useful, especially for things like home recording.

The Core i5 uses a newer architecture, so it will be a lot faster, as well as more suitable for future upgrades. The LGA 775 socket is obsolete now, so buying a Core 2 Duo doesn't make much sense. Just make sure your motherboard is compatible with the CPU.
