So, I got me a midi controller, I got me some synth vi's. Now I need to figure out WTF all those knobs and buttons and saws and oscillators do and how to acheive "that sound." Does anyone have a good source for synth training or tutorials?
Yes, here's a short track I made about a year ago:

I programmed the drums, yet added jingle bells and I think a crash sample. I had a lot of fun with it, but I don't feel this completely represents my artistic vision. BTW, I don't imagine...
I suppose I should elaborate a bit. I don't mean to say I want it "easy" as much as resourceful. I want to know if anyone has alternative methods of laying drum tracks. Even banging on trash cans, hand drums, diy crash sounds. The drums in my music is where I lose all my momentum in songwriting...
So I'm an intermediate (on good days) home recordist and songwriter who had mildly large dreams of creating interesting music with some rock elements. So needlessly put, I need percussion! I can program some beats to fit my needs but they don't have the interesting humanish frills and overall...
What are your favorite functions/setups/abilities with MIDI keyboard controller?
I'm am about to buy an Alesis 25 key controller and want to unroll it with a bang! What are your tricks
and fast-track tips?
I recently got the Drummic'A plugin and use with REAPER. I love the plugin, but I've run across a problem using it with Apogee Duet 2 interface. I'm not even sure if this belongs in this thread, but I also don't know the nature of the problem. When I am in the DAW using just headphones plugged...
So I've scoured the internet for free guitar VSTs the past couple days and I see a lot of really outdated reviews and older software, some of which I'm sure are really quality, but I thought I'd still check in with old faithful.
Which guitar VSTs have you found to be most useful, how do you use...
Hey there,
I am a Reaper user and a noob at that, and I wasn't sure where to post this question. I wanted to know how to actively record an effect fading in and out of a track. For instance, to use a bandpass filter that sweeps from that really muffled sound smoothly to a real sharp trill sound...
Brilliant, Sirs!
Thanks for the quick tips. HR is the first resource I usually use for info for everyone's fast responses and consideration. I hope that once I'm past the stage of noobdom I will be able to give back. Thanks again!
So I've been pretty interested in creating my own effect stomp boxes and audio components but I'm pretty befuddled as to where I should start.
I know names of components such as resistors and transformers, but don't have much knowledge on what their role is in the device and how it effects the...

Hey everyone, I'm looking for tips on how to achieve some of those little recording tricks you hear in some psychedelic bands' recordings. One that I would like to perfect is that rising delay that leads into the actual word, as heard in the beginning lines of Another Brick in the Wall. I want...
-"I don't have no mama. No family neither."
-"Hey, I'm your family"
-"You know what? When we started out, I thought we was really goin' somewhere. This is it. We're just goin', huh?"
-"I love Dave."

I asked the same question in another thread.
One of my questions was what was the difference in "balanced" and "unbalanced." Duet 1 is unbalanced, Duet 2 is balanced.
That's all I got, but the brief description explains enough, I believe.
