    Head suggestions for vintage vistalites?

Interesting. In reference to bonham, he actually only used the vistalites live, and recorded with his maple shell Ludwigs. I was actually considering the black dots. They've been around forever, which tells me they've been doing something right. I also saw that Evans has a power dot head now...

    Head suggestions for vintage vistalites?

Okay, if anyone has experience playing and/or tuning these old vistalite kits, I'd love some thoughts. Im Wanting to try out some new heads on the toms. I know what I like on the bass and snare, and I'm very satisfied with what I am getting there. I just need some direction on the toms. I've...

So I bought an old Ludwig 32 inch concert bass drum....now what?

Yeah, that's not going to work for a set. Concert bass drums are a completely different animal than your typical kick drum. New heads alone will cost more than you paid for that drum, and you aren't going to find them at a guitar shop. Steve Weiss or Percussion Source would be a good place to...

    Snare recording question

Couldn't you just overdub your hits? As in, recording the song on a level that works well for your sweeps, and, when you play hits, play soft, or don't play them. Then, record a second track withy the mic set up to pick up your hits. This time, play only your hits and leave out the sweeps. Mix...

Put up some pics of your kit

I love my roc n soc. Only problem is that I have to keep stealing it back from my wife, who likes to use it as an office chair, lol.

Put up some pics of your kit

1970's Ludwig Vistalite Clear I really need to clean it, but there it is. 22" bass, 13" rack tom and 16" floor tom. 14" X 5" Acrolite Snare. I'm always on the lookout for an 18" floor tom to add on to it, but I can only come across one when I don't have the money. Zildjain A...

Need help deciding what kind of drumset to get

PDP makes some good products that might get you close to where you want to go. That's DW's entry-level kits, and should be good for an intermediate player like yourself. For sure get some good heads and do a LOT of research on tuning. Quality, well-tuned heads will make whatever drum set you...

How can I get into doing Drum Tracks?

Thanks for the input. I do have the required mice and equipment to do it, I just need something to play. I'd love to lay down some tracks for people for free and if it takes off from there, then great, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm not about to quit my day job, I love it too much, lol.

How can I get into doing Drum Tracks?

So I've done some gigging and recording on drums for a couple different bands while in college, and I've had a blast. Unfortunately, after I graduated I took a job out in the sticks that doesn't allow for me to get back into the city to do much. I have some decent equipment and I am a good...

    Need Pointers Recording Drum Tracks

Hello All, So, my band's been working on some new material lately, and I decided to go ahead and start recording some of it. All our other demos are recorded live, all at once, on one track without vocals, then the vocals are added later. Honestly, they sound pretty great (probably because there...

triplets are doing my head in :(

Ok, first of all, those are eighth note triplets. That same pattern in quarter notes would take 2 beats. Now, as in any pattern you want to play on any instrument, slow way way down and get it in your hands at a speed that you can play it clean. Use a metronome. This is how I would go about...

Which company's drums do you play? VOTE

I'm currently on a vintage (late 70's) Ludwig clear Vistalite kit. Probably the best sounding kit I've ever owned. 22" bass, 14" snare, and 13"/16" toms. So far I'm very pleased with the sound, as long as I control the dynamic. These drums can get VERY loud.

First recording ever. help me out with some constructive criticism please!

2 cardioid condensors about 3 feet above the set, centered and crossed, one pointing towards the high hat, snare and crash cymbal, the other towards the ride cymbal and toms. Also, yes, I did turn down the low mids on the guitar. It seemed to interfere with vocal track a bit. Ill see what I can...

First recording ever. help me out with some constructive criticism please!

Yeah, I don't have a great set up for drum micing. I used 6 mics total on the set (4 drums and 2 overheads). Any thoughts on setting up the room/mics for less room sound? What do you mean specifically by weak? The guitar was an epiphone les paul running through a distortion pedal and into a...

First recording ever. help me out with some constructive criticism please!

Hey guys, first of all, I don't have a lot of very good equipment and the art of mixing seems to elude me, but I put together a demo of my band, and I wanted to let you hear it. It's a cover of a popular christian worship song from the 90s, if you have ever been to sunday school or vbs, you've...

What should I get that works with what I have?

For what we're doing, we don't need more than one output. As I said, we are recording one track at a time. I think recording multiple tracks at a time is just asking for trouble. Too many variables. I like the isolation of recording one at a time. That said, I think I'll check out what PreSonus...

Can anybody play French Horn or Violin... or Cello... or Vibraphone? (Trumpet?)

Well, I am a percussionist who can do some 4 mallet vibraphone, but I don't know If I have very good mics/equipment for that yet. What style did you have in mind? You might be better off just using a synth, they produce a pretty good vibes sound most of the time.

What should I get that works with what I have?

Ok, so i did a little googling and this is what I came up with: We are in the market for a new mixer for live performance. I am thinking that If I get one with usb capability, I will be able to use it as an audio interface for recording: 2 birds one stone. It won't get me the multiple tracks I...
