    New Midi controller kinks

I just got a Samson Graphite MF8 control surface that I'll be using with Cubase 5. Samson — Graphite MF8 I got it to work pretty well by using the generic Mackie option in cubase along with the manufactures first preset that has basic stuff like the fader controls volume on a channel, knob...

    Keeping transients on drums

I usually don't do full albums. It's mostly just do one song at a time that I attempt to "master". I like to wait a few days and not listen to the mix, then pull it up as if it wasn't mine and maybe a touch of EQ if it needs it, see what kind of effect some compression might have and then a...

    simple question

Like this guy, but just one space, and that price tag would make the whole project relatively disappointing. I mean, I don't need any of it, but i like learning how stuff works and I think it's a good way to do that JLM Audio Shop

    simple question

Wow, not as simple as it would seem. I figured there would be a simple chassis that is just the size of one module that has a built in power supply that you can just "plug" a module into. I mean, that's how a lunchbox works, no? Although with more spaces of course...? See, I don't have a rack...

    simple question

Thanks for answering! Sorry, i'm a complete noob with this. Do you mean something like this for a power supply? FiveFish Audio - PSU-2448 Power Supply Kit Also, a quick google search to educate myself on what a 1u rack unit is brings up a lot of stuff about computers. Is that the same same...

    simple question

I thought it would be really fun to try to build one of these modules. I like working with my hands but never thought about it for audio. Colour – DIYRE Anyway, if i were to make one of these 500 series modules, how would I power it? I know there are things like the API lunchbox, but I'm...

    Click & Tempo track

Thanks for all your help and ideas! What I meant by learning is being able to count easily and know what the time signature is. That way i can help the band map it out so that changes are in the click. Even though drummers "know" the signature, I'm not sure they can all explain it in 3/4, 4/4...

Mixing Acoustic instruments with electronic elements

Yeah, you can do that too, sure. If you want the same sound all the way around sometimes recording the real room can be cool. Have you ever tried it? It can be fun if nothing else. It's interesting to hear how your room sounds too... And if the acoustic is wet with real room sound the reverb...

Mixing Acoustic instruments with electronic elements

I've definitely come across that before. One thing you could try is to record those sounds coming out of your speakers in the room you recorded everything else in to get the space and then use at as a low level reverb. I've done it for electronic drums before. It's fun if nothing else.

    Click & Tempo track

The band I'm working with has lots of tempo and signature changes throughout about 6 tracks we'll be doing. Luckily the drummer is a math and beat wiz so he's able to tell me things like "these 3 bars are 4/4, then the next 4 are 3/4" and so on, so I can map them in Cubase 5 so the click track...

    Harrison Mixbuss?

I know I'm late, but I've been using mixbus for about a year now. I record in Cubase and transfer everything over for the mix process. I love how it's hard to make things complicated. For example, you can't send one of the 8 mixbusses to another. It forces me to think more globally and my mixes...

how to automate volumes with cubase?

Not to mention, in cubase, the default is set so volume automation is last in the process line. For a vocal track that has lots of volume variation, you'll have to compress the bejesus out of it to get it stable. Much better to dice it up and use clip gain (like you have been doing OP) so your...

    Friends in Portland?

Hey guys, I'm looking to get started on some DIY wall hanging panels. Does anyone live around Portland, or at least in the NW that know where to get some OC703 for a good price, or other materials that would be equivalent? Shipping would probably be fine if need be.. Thanks in advance!

Will Win 8 cause me grief?

I'm in need of a new computer.. I haven't been able to make music now for over a month because the old machine went to hell on me. That one was Vista, and even though it's old and clunky, I know it inside and out and never had any troubles. I know Win 7 is very similar in terms of look and...

    One simple mixing question

Yup, that's a negative of what I said. Same thing for EQ as well. It depends on which is easier, a lot of automation, or lots of the same plugins

    One simple mixing question

Sure, automation can be done on almost everything you can imagine in PT. But, It might be easier to leave it in piece and not automate at all. For example, maybe you have 2 pieces of the same guitar track. Piece one is the verse, piece 2 is the chorus. You want a big a big reverb on in just...
