Yes, you can monitor plugin effects while recording in Cubase too. Just make sure that your hardware direct monitoring is disabled in your ASIO setup menu, and then when you click on the monitor icon for your channel the effect should be there.

This thread on bass rolloff is very interesting to me right now. I have a pair of MXL 603s mics, and used with a Tascam DA-P1 DAT recorder to record a live performance at Lukenbach Dance Hall a couple months back. Unfortunately I was way in the back and the bass was really boomy in there. I kept...
Well, you can import Soundfonts into Cubase through Halion, a VST compliany plugin which is essentially a software based sampler. I have done this very successfully on a few projects. But it does cost you some more money ...

Yes, I also vote for A7M266 with the AMD 761 chipset. I use exactly that mobo in my system, with Cubase 5.1 and a US-428. Once I got my WinXP Pro USB audio drivers updated and generally set up the computer and OS correctly for DAW use, it has been rock solid at the lowest latency setting...
Great links SalJustSal, lots of useful info there. Now I know where the computer and sound card forum is! I checked out that iso cabinet Michael, it looks like a pretty solid piece of furniture, but wow - $799 for 19dB of attenuation. That's about what it cost me to build up my computer. I may...
OK I'll bite. Where is the "computer and sound card" forum? Couldn't find it here. Those iso booths for PC's sound interesting - is there a particular company to recommend? I would be a little wary about hampering the air flow and overheating the computer.
Yeah, the major home construction...
Hi folks, this is a kind of newbie question I guess, but I'd like to hear what people think. I have a computer dedicated as a DAW, and record through a Tascam US-428. I'm guessing my music room is maybe 25' by 20', give or take, with a 10' ceiling. I have 2 computers running in there. My music...
Got my order in at Zzounds for 2 MXL 603s mics today. Can't wait! I've been going through the mother of all mic threads this AM (again) and getting all my answers about X-Y mic'ing. What a great thread and source of valuable info!
I'll probably end up doing what you suggested Track Rat because...
Appreciate your feedback Track Rat. The Tascam DA-P1 does indeed have phantom power as well as digital audio inputs, it's a pretty full featured field DAT recording unit. The specs look pretty decent (20-20Khz +/- 0.5dB, 90dB S/N, 90dB dynamic range, THD <.007% @1Khz, <85dB chan sepration)...
Yeah, after reading through more of the post histories here the omni is clearly a bad option for this purpose. I'm awful tempted to pick up a pair of ECM8000's for my home recording use for acoustic guitar recording though! I am also pretty much decided to go for the MXL 603s stereo pair and see...
Thanks for the feedback Isaiah. I should have said that my recorded music will be closer to rock/blues/loud acoustic stuff. So the 603 has a sub-cardioid pattern - good for capturing a bit more of crowd noise and room acoustics I imagine? I don't think that I will be recording further than maybe...
Hi folks! I'm a newbie here who has been lurking for a while and digesting all the great info tossed around here. I do a fair amount of amateur home recording, and currently have a SP C1, AT MB4000C, MXL V57M, Joemeek VC6Q, Presonus Bluetube and Tascam US428 to capture audio onto the PC.
I am...
