How long ago did Alesis discontinue the HD24 and HD24XR ?

I'm just curious since I just bought a XR off ebay. I bought a HD24 back around 2000 or 2001 for $2000 if I remember right. After computer recording took off didn't keep up on these old school recorders and when they got phased out. Mine sat for probably 15 years and then got back into...

    Lexicon MPX1 vs MPX500

Trying to decide between the Lexicon MPX1 and MPX500. From what I understand the MPX 1 lets you run a number of multi effects, where as the MPX 500 only preset groups two at a time like delay and chorus, or reverb and flange. Seems like the MPX one would allow more flexibility. I don't think...

    Rolls direct box

Has anyone ever used a Rolls Red square direct box? I need something to split the signal for my bass and this thing will do it and is supposed to have a by-passable *sonic exciter* that is supposed to define the signal somewhat. I don't really like too many effects, but the box has a 1/4 in...

Keith Moon, Ian Paice.....it is all about Style!

Keith moon has such a cool style unlike anything I have ever heard. I was listening to The Who, Live at Leeds...young man's blues, and Moon was just going nuts. I like that on the edge of control, yet totally in control sound. I also think that Ian Paice of Deep Purple is way under rated. He...

Roland SRV3030D.....as good as a Lexicon?

How does the Roland SRV3030D compare with the Lexicon stuff, like a MPX500? I do know that the Lexicon sucks as far as programming goes, but quality of sound is pretty good. Does anyone here use and like the Roland? Tnx

Digital mixers?? ..can you hear any difference?

What are the big advantage(s) in using a digital mixers? I know the sound quality is probably a bit cleaner, but would it be something that you can actually hear? I have a HD24 Alesis and am about to buy something to mix with. I was going to just get a Mackie analog board but started thinking...

Roland V-drums vs Acoustic kit ...on tape

It is challanging to get a really good sound out of an acoustic kit especially when the room is not optimized for recording. I am wondering if an electronic kit would be a better way to go for recording? I figure I could still use real cymbals and just record the rest of the electronic kit...

    Phase cancelation problems

I have phase cancelation probs on a pair of Sm57s. How are you supposed to reverse phase on a mic like a Shure SM57 or Sm58?? There is no phase switch on the mics or switch on my Mackie mixing board.... ...sorry if this is a dumb question, but I really don't know.

Sound bleed problems while miking drums

After recording drum tracks and listening to each channel separately, there is an amazing amount of bleed through on each channel.....especially the snare. The snare buzzes every time any other drum is hit. Is this stuff typically edited out for each drum? Is that what they do (or one of the...

Kick drum seems to be lagging on final mix

I have this problem with the sound of the kick drum sounding like it is slow while mixing a song. I am playing right on the click track as I record and it sounds ok in the headphones. I know low frequencys supposedly have different characteristics as far as speed of travel and so on.....is it...

    Gating the kick drum

I ran a shure beta 52 that was mic'd up close at the beater and then ran into an alesis 3630 gate and then in to the mixer- recorder. Without gating the kick, I was getting a sloppy muddy sound. I like the quick sharp defined sound of the gating, but I think some of the low end was lost...

Took the plunge and bought a HD24....problems already!

It was nicely packed, I can say that much. I put some recording time in on it and after I layed down some tracks I was in the middle of punching in to fix a part....after about the third punch in the recorder begins recording and then stops a few seconds later and gave me a "underwrite error...

Alesis quadraverb...still useful in a home studio??

Money is tight so I am considering using my original 1990 Q-verb on some songs? Am I crazy? Is it still useful, or should I take the plunge and buy another multi effects set up?...and if I do...what?

Quadraverb ...is it still useful for recording?

I have a 1990 (original) Quadraverb and I am deciding whether or not to pitch it in favor of a newer multi-effects such as the Lexicon MX500 or something like that. Has anyone here had the opportunity to compare a Quadraverb with any newer processors? Is the Q-verb so out dated that it is not...
