In my DAW there is no sign of red or clipping. The volume is rather low when going in to the DAW. I have to turn it up a lot in my DAW to get dB 0.

Hi, I use a Focusrite 6 USB preamp to record my trombone. First question; What is "headroom" Second, I use an apex 205 ribbon mic. I have to turn the preamp nearly to full. When I blow "mf" its ok sound. When its louder the sound turn out to be a little muddy, not so clear anymore. Any tips?

Thanks for tips. I found the C-1000 to be OK or better if I set the distance some longer away. At home I have 2 Apex 205 ribbon mics. Made in China, but this are extremely good. They catch a clearer and fuller sound both low and high. Very nice for my trombone. The Focusrite preamps also help I...
