    Talk tubes to me.

I've got a 20 year old Acoustic 100 watt amp head, the brand not the type. It's got the original tubes in it and it's starting to sound really bad. It has 4 6L6 tubes and 4 12AX7A tubes in it. It's gonna be several hundred dollars to replace them all, so I thought I'd see if anyone has any...

    New to recording

Well, your next mic purchase should probably be a large diaphram condensor and a decent tube preamp. The reason I asked about budget is that you can spend anywhere from $300 to $30000 on those two items. I would suggest going to the MARS store in Bridgeton where they have all the mics setup to...

    help!

In that price range you're looking at a 4-track cassette deck, like a Tascam. You can get pretty decent quality out of them if 4 tracks is enough for you. If you need more than that the price goes up real fast.

    Expanding the Stereo Field

I don't know if anyone else has done this or not, or if it can be duplicated on other equipment than what I have, but I found an intresting little trick. I was playing with my new patch bay, trying out different signal routes and so forth, when I stumbled on the following configuration. Aux...

    Installing rack rails

We've just replaced all of our wide area networking equipment at work and I found that I have several left over rack rails. I honestly don't know how that could've happened. I thought my estimates were really close... :-) Anyway, I'm going to be installing these into the computer desk that I use...

    Lexicon MPX-1

I've been looking at multi-effects processors and DAMN, I thought picking out new mics was tough !!! I really don't want to go over a thousand bucks so... I've test driven several and I think I like the Lexicon MPX-1. I know a bunch of people out there have used them so please, give me the...

    Headphone miniplugs ARRGG

Don't give up so easily. First off, that high flexibility wire CAN be soldered. It's a lot easier to do if you use a gob of flux before touching your solder to the connection. Don't rely on the stuff that comes in the core of the solder itself. Second, if you have good joints ( solder joints )...

    Monitors and Cats

How about covering them when they aren't in use ? You could put a box or a milk crate over them so the cats couldn't get at them. I once had a problem with a cat getting up on a shelf that had breakable items on it. At someone's suggestion, I put several mouse traps down, NO WAIT THERE'S MORE...

    Shure KSM32

Does anyone have any experience with the Shure KSM32 ? I'm looking for a decent quality condenser that will be fairly flexible. Mainly for vox and acoustic guitar. I currently have a Shure SM57, a sennheiser MD421, and few that aren't worth mentioning. Will this mic help round out my collection ?

    3 dimensional mix ?

When listening to what I would consider to be a very well mixed track, there seems to be more than just a left-right separation between the individual components. There is, at least a perceived, third dimension to the sound that seems to give the instruments vertical space as well as horizontal...
