I actually can't believe I never thought about investing in an old board. Thats a great idea and probably alot more cost effective
Are there any other similar older models I should be on the look out for?
I'm curious to see how feasible it is. It'd be alot cheaper (obviously) if I could spring for a better interface with more inputs by using simple, clean DIY pre's - I also don't mean many of the expensive DIY kits to build boutique or vintage clones.
I remember reading an article somewhere that...
This is something I've been wondering about. In a world where computer processing is getting cheaper and cheaper, is there still a major advantage to the hardware PCIe processing that PT HD or UA systems provide?
For instance, is a native PT plugin on their hardware DSP that much faster than...
Thanks for the responses! What type of hard material would be appropriate for the flooring? I'm open as long is the cost isn't outrageous. I can't put in like a nice hardwood floor, but would some kind of large wood paneling on the floor suffice? Also would the entire ceiling have to be covered...
Hey guys, I'm going to be constructing a 20Lx12Wx10H studio space in my garage this week and I'm wondering what kind of acoustic I'm going to be needing to make the room suitable for general recording. It's just a simple rectangle, one wall is going to be separating the garage in half and the...
The only kind of screams that should really need any kind of distortion are fry screams. Combine a regular one with a really distorted whisper or fry track and some different combos of that but if the person needs tons of processing on it than they probably need to improve their screaming...
By distortion what exactly do you mean? If its the tone then yeah EQ would do it, same with if its a little fizzy. It depends on what about the distortion you want to tame.
Uhhhh.... I wasn't saying that using pitch correction on her was cheating, I was just stating that if he used pitch correction on it then it simply sounded too robotic, ie. a bad use of pitch correction. I have no problem with it as an effect, however sometimes people simply do it wrong.
Is there a little bit of autotune creeping in at some parts? It sounds like the vibrato was sometimes exaggerated a tad to far or that the note steps were a bit *too* clean, if it isn't i'd almost try to get a take with a little less cleanless on the gospel "ohh-yy-ohh" kinda thing.
It's not...
Better than the mic pre in my line 5 toneport? Yes.
I didn't realize how kinda awful they sound until I bought an M-Audio DMP3. It had this really warm texture... Except not in a good way. It made everything sound kinda fuzzy and took off the sparkle.
I'm sure a great deal of it was the stock...
Uhhh, what effects are there for vocals on Living Dead Girl? As far as I can remember he just speaks it low, and does a yell during the chorus.
The girl voices are just a keyboard, so I can't think of any other stuff?
UG Community @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com - Basic Guide to Rasp/Vocal Distortion
Theres the whole mega-guide I wrote and compiled for singing with rasp and distortion.
If you can do that screamings only a step a way. I could probably teach someone to growl in 30 minutes. Growlings easy though, the...
Depends on what you're going for.
My Korg M50 has great piano sounds, but it lacks enough dynamics for playing true classical or anything like that. Can't quite get enough FF, but on the other hand it sounds pristine.
A mic'd piano will just sound more.... Real. If you can record it well...
Except for 2 or 3 amp models ALL of the 'metal' amps in Amplitube are absolutely horrendous (Especially the scooped mid mesa-boogie clones). I think it's the british lead ones that I thought sounded wicked, I haven't used it in ages though. I could definitely get a good tone out of it though for...
I plan on upgrading my audio interface soon so that I'll have the ability to do some basic drum recording. For the kick/snare I have 2 Audix I5's that I can use but assuming I'll only be using 4 mics I need the overheads.
I have that MXL 990/991 package, so my question is should I buy another...
What kind of vocals are you doing?
For growling I wouldn't double track it, I'd focus alot more on some reverb going on behind it, some presence boost to help it get through all the middy crap. Growls have a lot of unnecessary low end if you're growling really low.
For high/mid screams I'd...
Aside from clearing out the mush thats underneath the vocals what I found the key to a great growl sound is actually carving out the lower frequencies and boosting the treble.
The growl is already full of bass, so eq in the part that it lacks, and it will have alot more clarity and punch.
