This might be a REALLY stupid question, but... Is there some kind of meter or analyzer that I could use to compare my audio to some other audio that I know sounds good? Or even just something to provide a visual reference so I can see what the boundries are?

Awesome input! THANK YOU! Monitoring/mixing is a constant struggle for me. I'll definitely try it at a lower volume next time. I do tend to crank it up when I'm mixing.

That's amazing, man. The performance is spot-on. I'm not good with terms, but it sounds a little dark to me. Like there's a frequency missing somethere that could really brighten it up.

I'm pretty sure the root cause is mic placement. The mic is kinda below my face and I'm singing across the top of it. Is that "proximity effect"? I don't know from terms.

I forgot to touch on the bass too. I really struggle with tone when I record it, this one just happened to work to the song's advantage. It's a REALLY cheap bass and the amp I'm using is a just modified guitar amp. It's difficult to bring the thump under those circumstances.
