Dave,
You can get the schematic, but you have to view the related project page first.
Click on Blue Jinn's link above.
Click the link ibanez_cp9 (just above the download button)
Then go back and click the download button and you should be able to access the schematic.
I've built a two channel power amp for my home stereo system. I used amplifier kits from one of our local electronic enthusiast magazines, and built it all into a 3RU case. Took quite a while to finish, and I find that the metal work is the most challenging!
I think that £200 may be a little...
Actually, I wouldn't say that XY changes the pattern. It *might* have some influence, because of the close proximity of the coincident microphones, but I don't think that this specifically creates the stereo image.
Rather, the it is the combination of the cardioid polar patterns of the mics...
@gregoryg: Here is another mod for the SM57 which may also work for the GLS ES57. - Shure SM57 Impedance Modification : Recording Magazine -
It's about lowering the impedance which the mic sees by using a simple XLR barrel adapter with a resistor across pins 2 and 3.
@David Cooke: can you...
Michael Joly has published a simple mod for these mics that can alter their sonic character. At the price, it can't hurt to try!

I suspect that you might love GroupDIY
Over there you can find projects which recreate classic audio products - stuff like Neve, API, UA. Plenty of other projects as well. There is a broad membership of electrical engineers, QBE (qualified by experience) amateur designers, and DIY...
I have not used the LRM-1, but I have purchased other products from No Hype. J-P Gérard is a straight-up good guy to deal with and I trust him. I am going to get a pair of LRM-1 myself soon, with stock transformers. I have a pair of Cinemag ribbon transformers sitting unused, so I could...
A perfectly valid reason!
If you wanted to try MS on a low-ish budget, you could use a ribbon mic like the No Hype LRM-1: NoHype Audio Products: Quality Affordable Audio Equipment
For that matter, grab a couple and then you can try a Blumlein array!
Have a look at the Line Audio CM3 (wide cardioid) and OM1 (omni). These come in at around €100 each. Very well regarded at GS by the remote/acoustic guys, these mics certainly seem to punch above their weight.
Information is available at Line Audio Line Audio Design - Made in Sweden and a...
I guess you could try this...
Get an extra pair of TRS cables. Connect your microphone/s to the mic inputs on the Komplete Audio. Connect Out 1 and 2 to the RNC inputs. Connect the outputs of the RNC to In 3 and 4 of the Komplete Audio. Capture the audio from input 3 and 4.
Might work???
Don't overlook the Line Audio OM1 (omni) and Line Audio CM3 (wide cardioid). These come in around the €110 each. Both are well regarded by the acoustic recording guys at Gear$slutz.

and a good retailer is here: Line Audio - Swedish Made High...
It is interesting that the AD797 and the NE5534 are frequently targeted for "upgrading" with newer and sexier chips, when in reality, the performance of these older chips is pretty blameless. There is one high-profile modder (Jim Williams, Audio Upgrades) who strongly advocates the use of high...
I think that the Cohen topology is somewhat different. Here's some light reading: Graeme Cohen's Page
"Classic" circuits that I think of (for example, Jensen white papers) unbalance the signal with a transformer, amplify it with one or two stages, then re-balance for output. Which is not to...
Is the design you mention the Graham Cohen double balanced topology, or one of Self's designs?
I really want to get a copy of Self's book "Small Signal Audio Design". Tossing around whether to get a paper edition or e-book.
Hmmm. Input and ouput traffs?
Have a look at the data-sheet for the THAT 1512 for an alternative circuit - with RFI management.
With no disrespect for Doug Self, I might just note that preamp chips have found their way into a number of highly regarded products. The DAV Broadhurst Gardens 1, for example.
