    Budget DAW recommendations

If you're on either Linux or Mac then Ardour would be worth looking into ... IMO

    let me see your studio!

Ok here's my studio ... it's a bit of a cheapo compared to the other ones I see pictured here but this is all I got! There's the analogue section at the left, with the Tascam 308 mixer as the best part, and the digital section right, with Ardour running on a MacBook. I even built the table...

Which software you use to make audio recording

Well if I had a "PC" (as in, not a Mac) I'd certainly use Ubuntu - I installed it on my wife's laptop and like it a lot.

Which software you use to make audio recording

I use Ardour, version 2.8 for Mac. I used Cubase MIDI from 1994 onward, Audiotracker (on the Falcon 030) from 1998 - 2003, then Cubase Audio Mac until version 4. Discovered Ardour not a year ago. Ver.3 is said to be unstable on Macs and won't open sessions started in version 2. Just today I...

    Ardour DAW

Yes I use Ardour (2.8 on a Mac) and I like it a lot. The new (3.5 or something) version is stable on Linux only so I haven't tried it out. They want you to donate a bit so I got mine for 2 dollars, after I tried it a bit I gave 'em 25 because it is really good. Used to work with Cubase but I...

    Recording to an external drive?

Well there´s no secret ... Your DAW will ask you where to save your project and you just chose a destination on the external HD.

    Best guitar multi effect unit...

Yes connecting to the interface would be the normal way to go. Mostly the USB connection on these devices (if present) are only for saving stuff to disk, they contain no converters.

Help needed - Home recording -

Consider Ardour for DAW. It's free for Linux users, donation ware for Macs. It's a terrific program.

    What DAW do you use?

Works on my PC-BSD laptop as well ... you´re invited to make a donation every time you export audio but if you choose not to do so, export works anyway.

    What DAW do you use?

    dbx 150x Noise Reduction

Soemebody here is asking 175 Euros for that unit - I've always preferred dbx over dolby (which is included in my Fostex M-80) but is that worth the money? Wanting your opinions before I begin even considering ...

    Demagnetizing considerations

Shocked about the black!? traces - never had any of these! I use 97% alc from the chemist´s, no brand or anything. BTW after a discussion on this forum a year or so ago I decided to stop demagnetizing my tapeheads alltogether and see what happens. Nothing has, so far ...

    PC or Mac for recording?

Until 2003, when I finally bought a Mac G5, I did my HDR on an Atari Falcon ... actually finished quite a few CDs on that machine. Most of my Soundclick stuff (in my "music for free" link in my sig.) was done using that 16MHz monster;) Now I'm using a Mac mini at home and a MacBook when I'm...

Eddie Offord although he was not analog by choice (there was nothing else around back then)
