I searched the archives a lot and I know there are people like me who live in a tiny apartment and can't crank a tube amp to 11 (or even 1 in my case) without being evicted. I long ago resigned myself to the fact that awesome miked distortion tones will not be coming from my home recordings.
So...
So I've been in and out of bands for years but struck out on my own so i could really develop my own voice, be a songwriter, get a demo together, etc. I find myself in a situation where I basically don't know anyone who can play drums for me, or piano for that matter. I know I could go on...
I wasn't sure where to put this. I'm curious as to people's opinions on the best music cities. Yeah yeah I know the obvious ones are Nashville, LA, NYC. But I'm sure I'm overlooking some great cities for music. I am looking for a vibrant music community - does that still exist?
I'm looking for a preamp to be used mainly for vocals; but, the tracking is to be done using a korg d1600mkII, not a pc or soundcard/interface. I'm not going for anything near perfection, just a step up from the pre's in the korg multitracker.
What I still don't get (and I searched a bunch of...
I finally need to get a bass for adding depth to my song demos that I record at home. I've played guitar for 15 yrs but have conveniently ignored all things bass so I don't know jack. My limit is $300. I love the fender basses (that leaves me with MIM standards, bought used), but I wonder if...
Hi there. I am in the market for a tube amp that has a great clean channel. I play fender strats and i play punk rock through fuzz boxes, but I really want something that can make the strat shine on the clean too. i play clean a lot too. marshalls are not an option. this would be a...
I'm wondering what the general perception of the AKG Perception series is, specifically the 400 model that goes for about $300.
It seems to be a really good deal, but I have always hated the c series, like a lot of people, and I know the perceptions are new.
I'm tryin to decide whether to go...
So I can't find much on this thing besides it was discontinued in '98. Does anyone have experience with it, sound vs. other sg's? I've heard people love these things.
i'm sure this will amuse someone, but me and my buddies were wondering what you think the best mic, technique, etc. would be if we wanted to record someone talking/singing into a fan to get that effect we all know so well. small diaphragm instrument-type condenser? use any dynamics effects...
what's up. before i start this--i am not just posting without using the search function, etc. i've read half a dozen reviews and scoured everyone's posts on these preamps. However, maybe someone who owns or really knows about the Grace 101 and the RNP can tell me something. Shops around here...
but maybe not a quality question...so i'm putting it in newbies.
The multitracker I'm getting, korg d1200mkII (returning the d1600mkII for this smaller version cuz I'm basically just recording vox and guitar--don't need so much in a box) has RCA/phono outs for the monitors.
Should I be...
I've got a sweet DJ setup that's in near-mint condition. Bought all this stuff new in Jan-March 2004. Sadly, the DJ thing is not for me, so I'm offering it up for sale in an effort to add to my preamp and mic fund.
- 2 Numark TTX1's
- 2 Shure M35X 'house/techno' styli/carts (installed...
some basic questions i've been wondering about on terms that seem to come up a lot (in catalogs and elsewhere... ;) )
- what does it mean to be out of phase (i.e., for a mic? other gear?). is this always a negative thing for sound, or can it sometimes be misused for 'interesting' effects, etc...
I have read about the coles, AEA, old skool RCA, and now the Royers, but of course have never even seen one in real life.
Can anyone tell me if I want to record both clean and distorted electric guitars with a mic, how will a ribbon compare to an SM57?
Would it be stupid to get a ribbon to use...
