I have a Peavey diaphram mic (set to -10dB...and the direction seems to make no difference) hooked using XLR to a Behringer Eurorack MX802A mixer running (via a 1/4" L and 1/4" R to 1/8" stereo cable) into my Turtle Beach SantaCruz soundcard. It doesn't seem to matter what software I use...
