Our local Park Band with Josh Facello on Violin. Simple setup, 3 microphones. 2 mics on the band (x/y Stereo), a vocal mic for the violin, recorded live on stage. Just sharing with the group. I hope to have more time to spend here.
This piece is a re-master from the original I recorded years ago. Original recording, 7 channels mixed direct to 2 track using headphones. All recorded in the percussionist's living room of a mobile home.
In the re-master, brought the low end up, compressed the vocal range a bit, basically...
Using a spanning bar to mount inside the grand piano case so you can record with the lid up or down. Granted... it sounds better up, but still usable with the lid down.
I posted over on "the other " board, you can check them out there..

Hi guys--opinions wanted
OK, since there is a similar thread here, I wanted to ask your opinions on this sound--classical piece. How do these mics sound?
Is the stereo field big enough, not big enough? Overall recording quality(keep in mind this is MP3). etc. Let it fly...
I took an evening and recorded a local artist. Here is one of the cuts out of the 16 we did in one evening!

This is a just a post to show how a couple of condensers can capture a descent live sound at a show. This is a local band I recorded live. I won't be leaving the recording up for very long since it is a cover piece.
Purely for demonstration purposes.
Only One...
I finally got the nerve to post a piece I have done. I didn't write the piece, it's by a rocker named Joe Gruchecky(not sure its spelled right). This is recorded direct to CD.

bang away at it. I do this because...
Since we had the poll on condensers. How many of you use ribbon mics?
I have a couple of vintage mics that have saved my butt more than once when we couldn't "find" the sound we were wanting.
One is an old Altec 639B birdcage, the other is a Shure figure 8(can't remember the model--300???)...
I was recording a vocalist and just couldn't get the sound I wanted. I pulled out an old Altec 639B, it absolutely made the session. Since then I have used it on a couple of other vocalists and to record saxophones.
I also pulled out an old Shure 300 series bi-directional ribbon to record...
Just my $.02 worth
I do a lot of sound work with my job. I also work a lot with bar bands/blues bands etc. Everyone goes on about using SM57's or 58's for vocals etc. I have to cover everything from grunge sound to operatic sopranos.
If you are buying mics for vocals, skip the SM's and...
