Hi all --
I haven't been here for ages and need to catch up with what's new!
I have to record a live jazz ensemble in stereo for a movie soundtrack. I can't mic every single instrument, but I thought I could put either a pair of mics or a stereo mic in front of the band and feed the signals...
Hi --
I needed to solder a stereo microphone cable to a 1/4 inch (3.5 mm) stereo plug. The mic cable has two red and two yellow wires, plus shielding. Is this the right way?
red 1 --> tip of plug
red 2 --> ring of plug
yellow 1+2 --> sleeve of ring
Thanks!
Hi there --
What SDC would you guys recommend to record saxophone?
Why an SDC? I am traveling a lot and would like to have a mobile rig (using my MacBook Pro and an M-Audio MobilePre) to overdub my saxophone solo over existing recording. I don't want to take my preferred ribbon mic (too...
Hi all --
I guess this has been discussed many times but I needed quick purchasing advice. I recently switched to a Mac PowerBook Pro and need a recording software to record and mix a small jazz band.
What would you recommend?
1) ProTools M-Powered ($249, would support my M-Audio interface)...
Hi --
I have two items which need a new home:
Rode NT-2A: bought three months ago, only used on one song and powered for a few hours. Like new condition and excellent sounding multi-pattern LDC. Includes the SM2 shock mount. $340.- shipped to your door (within the US).
M-Audio MobilePre USB...
Hey guys --
I am currently using an M-Audio MobilPre USB interface and consider getting a UA Solo/610 pre since the built-in pres of the MobilePre are a bit noisy.
Would such a setup (Rode NT2-A > UA Solo/610 > M-Audio MobilePre > Logic) make sense or is it not worth having a "boutique preamp"...
Hi!
I recently bought a Rode NT-2A for the sole purpose to record my tenor saxophone. Since a tenor sax is very similar to the range of the human voice, similar results should apply to vocals.
I usually put the NT-2A into figure-8 (which sounds more "airy") and the signal goes straight...
Hi there --
over the past few years I had a recording setup that I considered rather high end -- for the sole purpose to record me playing tenor saxophone over tracks other guys provide. I guess I am like everyone else on this board: the best is just good enough. ;) The signal chain alone was...
Hi!
I need to buy one mic for the sole purpose to record saxophone (=me) in my project studio. Unfortunately money is tight (<$250.-). Given the large number of budget mics on the market, I cannot decide. Maybe you can chime in and give me your opinion? These are the mics which I...
Hi guys & girls --
I want to switch from desktop to a mobile laptop recording setup. I will only record one thing: me on my tenor saxophone. I already have a fast notebook (Alienware Sentia notebook, 2.4 MHz mobile Pentium processor 2GB Ram, external 400 GB firewire/USB drive). No need for a...

Hi guys --
unfortunately I need to sell my entire studio. All items below are for sale
and in absolut perfect condition as part of my non-smoking home studio.
Most items were covered with cloth to avoid dust and more expensive gear like
microphones were kept in aluminum flight cases when not...
Hi!
there's a lot of chatter here how a world clock might improve the overall clarity of a mix. While I understand that a common & stable clock will sync external MIDI gear resulting in a better alignment of the sounds, I don't understand how clocking will improve a pre-existing mix (there are...
Hi there --
one channel of my A&H 16:2DX Mixwizard is about 6dB lower in output that the others, and there is excessive noise on that channel, too. I used that channel as one of my outputs from the soundcard.
Could it be that the channel is blown? If so, what can I do to fix it?
Thanxx!
Hey guys --
I am in the process of putting a website together about bottle mics:
http://www.giganova.com/bottle_mics.html
I'd be happy if you could send me more info & updates (omissions, years in production, etc) of bottle mics so I can update the site. Also, if you want me to include more...
Hey guys --
I consider getting a new mic, probaby with a M7 capsule (I only have a Gefell M930 right now -- nothing else). Have you checked out the Red Type B vintage mic body? It has all discrete circuitry, rather inpressive specs, and best of all: it has a universal bajonette which can hold...
