I'll never part with my 238. 688 238 234 are awesome decks especially when you consider what you can pay for a barely used unit compared to what they orininally cost.And cassettes are cheap

maybe you can try turning the 238 on and letting it "warm up" 15 minutes or so before you use it.It Might do the trick for a long time. They are great decks
