I think I must have fried my sound card this weekend after I ran a cable from the headphone jack (instead of the line out) on my amp to the line-in on my sound card because it won't record any more.
So that leaves me with having to buy a new one. This one was a SB Live Value. It served me...
I haven't checked it out yet, but thanks for the pointer!
I realize it's going to be an involved project. But I'm willing to learn, research, and makes lots of mistakes.
Thanks again.
Has anybody out there actually done this?!
Does anybody have any idea where I might start to look for how-to advice on building my own guitar amp? Has anybody tried it? Does anybody recommend for/against it?
Any guidance sure would be appreciated. I view it primarily as a learning experience.
Thanks ahead of time. :-)
Thanks Slackmaster! (And everybody else who's been writing) I appreciate all your help. And the benefit of your experience (which definitely saves me a lot of trial and error time).
Thanks again!!

I posted this question in Mixing/Mixing Down, but didn't get much of a response. Since I am a newbie, I thought I'd try again here. :) (BTW, How do you get those faces in the body of the message?)
Has anybody heard of Sony Studio Monitor Headphones? I was in Best BUy the other day and came...
I appreciate that dmcsilva.
I'm concerned, however, that the distortion will appear as I slide the volume of the track up to the point it should be at for the mix. But I guess that I just have to play around with it to make sure that I only have to turn volumes DOWN--not Up! DOes that sound...
Has anybody heard of Sony Studio Monitor Headphones? I was in Best BUy the other day and came across a pair for $30. They had a bigger pair (with a slightly greater frequency range) for $100.
Since I'm new to the whole recording thing and still living in my parents' basement (in my defense...
Thanks for the speedy reply.
But a couple of follow-up questions:
Does this general rule of "close to the red" apply before I start using EQ and compression? And should I ever EQ and compress the whole song, even after I've done it to the individual tracks?
IF the volume goes way up after...
I'm currently recording guitar through the line in on my sound card. I'm just at a loss as to how loud I should be recording. The on-screen monitor bounces around the yellow and green, sometimes into the red.
I'm supposed to stay out of the red, right?
The monitor also seems to be keeping...
That's for all that great advice, Slackmaster!
I'm using Acid ph1. I think it's an old precursor to all the Acid products that are out there now because I can't even find it on Sonic Foundry's web page.
The editor I'm using is Sound Forge XP 4.5. That's where the 'dynamics' effect is.
Acid...
Now that I look at the stuff on mixing, I realize that in order to burn a stereo CD I need to MIX!!
But what software can I use to do this on my computer? Is there decent shareware out there? Is Sound Forge XP any good at all for this? Is it possible to do all the mixing on the computer...
I'm recording electric guitar by micing the amplifier. (I'm getting a very good tone). The mic is 1/4", with a 1/8" stereo adapter on it. But the mic is mono, right? How can I tell if the mic is mono or stereo? If it's stereo, should I set the recording monitors (in Acid ph1) to stereo or...
I'm using Philips Write2CD software for burning and am unaware of any option to select mono/stereo, so I was assuming that it was stereo. I'll check it out tonight. Any ideas where such an option might be "hidden"? Thanks.
I recorded some guitar tracks (mono) in Acid ph1. Then I burned a CD of it. THe volume is fine out of my home speakers, but for some reason, the left channel is louder than the right when I play it in my car. This is not typical. Any ideas, possible explanations, etc? Thanks in advance.
Does anybody know offhand whether or not ACID ph1 can be used for multi-track recording?
(I may be mis-using the term--what I mean is I want to record the guitar track, then play it back through headphones (possibly through a different program) and record a vocal track. So that I then have...
The effects I meant are declick, decrackle, denoise, bass boost, stereo enhance, etc.
I can't figure out how to apply these to the sound waves. Can you help me out? Thanks in advance.
Is there any way to use this program with 640x480 display?
And how do you select portions of a track and process an effect on that portion, and then be able to go back and do it again on the same track--different effect, different portion? Any help would be much appreciated.
