    cleaning heads on Tascam 388

I don't see why not. A lot of people still use regular 99 percent isopropyl on heads. Remember, I linked you to a canadian amazon site.

    Tascam 246 and 388 pricing?

Yeah...The prices are high. And they will only stay that way or get higher as the years go on. I bought my first one about 8 years ago for $500 canadian. Then I came across another one that wasn't working for $150. I fixed that one myself. I just had a bad resistor that came loose. Now it works...

    Any feedback on my conduct?

Cory, you came across like a well spoken, patient member of this forum. You're definately not in the wrong here. The other member did come across a little snarky in his responses. You have put in many, many hours helping people out here. You don't always have to feel obligated to either. Don't...

    Another Akai MG1212.......

I just finished using another new tape that I just unwrapped today and it worked great. No shed, not even a spec of oxide on the heads. So that's a good thing. Maybe the first one was just a bad one. I have used all my used tapes and they are all good. As for the idler. It's not too difficult...

    Another Akai MG1212.......

I believe it does. I have 3 new old stock tapes. I recently opened one and tried it and it was leaving a lot of residue all over the transport. Rew/ffw was very sluggish with this tape too. I have a few used tapes that don't have this problem and they work fine. I'm thinking the other 2 new...

Tascam 388 Total Beater, looking for initial advice

I always use a flashlight when re-seating cards. You gotta make sure everything is lined up correctly.

The small label has a # 456-970111 then there is 332603410103 and then 93344 Unfortunately I don't own a machine that supports this tape size:o

NOS Ampex 2 inch tape. Thrift store find.

Was browsing at the Thrift store today and saw a familiar looking grey box peeking out from under some junk. Pulled it out and it's a NOS reel of Ampex 456 2 inch tape. The reel is still sealed in the plastic. I ended up buying it for the hell of it. It cost me $20. It's most likely sticky...

    Tascam 244/246 replacement tire. Opinions?

Have you tried checking with Teac ? I ordered one from Teac Canada. This was about 7-8 years ago though. They place their orders with Teac in the US. You Could try Teac in California to see if they have any left.

Here's one I just finished. Recorded on the Akai MG1214. The mix is kinda all over the place, as is the playing.:D And I feel as though I have ripped off an existing song. Just can't put my finger on it:confused: https://soundcloud.com/jasonharvey/hang-my-head-jason-harvey-akai-mg1214

    DBX 119 et al

I have never really messed with the expansion on mine, but I do use the compression and like the effect. You can squash the signal pretty good with it. There's no make up gain though. It would be cool if that could be a mod on this unit. I think it sounds nice on acoustic guitar.
