Tascam 388 control panel and motor issues

Are you sure your fuses are good. Sometimes they can look ok but can still be bad. You should check them with a multimeter or just replace them all together.

    newbie TASCAM 388 question

You can't monitor off the head. What you'll be hearing is the mixer/monitor section first. There is a calibration forum here. I have asked a bunch of questions about calibrating the 388 in the past and got some very good guidance.

Tascam 388 control panel and motor issues

There are a few small plugs under the control panel. You could try unplugging then plugging back in.

Tascam 388 control panel and motor issues

When I bought my 2nd 388, it wasn't working as stated in the ad. When it was plugged in, none of the lights on the control panel lit up. Not even the digital tape counter. I looked underneath the control panel and saw a resistor that was flopping around. It had a bit of burning around it, but...

What would you do? Tascam 388

I'm kind of the same way. I bought one. Used it as my main. Found a junker for parts/heads. Then Scored another that needed a quick fix, which I took care of. Now Im using that one as my main one and my first one is now under the bed. But I can't bring myself to sell it. I just think it's good...

Going to build a cassette mini-studio

No Tascam eh.... That's what I was going to suggest. Do a search on Casa Cassette. Not sure if you've heard of it. It's a guy in Norway who runs a cassette only studio. I think he records to 8 track cassette too.

So whats going on with those old 4 track recorders prices?

Ebay is not the place to go for these kind of things. Check your local classified.\ I got a mint in box 246 with accessories for $100. I bought my 244 from former HR member Ghost of FM for $50 .It did need a repair though. And I got a 424mkII in mint shape for $60. Heck.... I bought 2 Tascam...

    troubleshooting tascam 388 record problem

You can try re-seating the amp cards for record/playback. That's something that a lot of people do when recording issues arise. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Doing that can "wake up" tired old connections between the actual cards and the motherboard.

That's a really good song man! Nice sound with the acoustics too. There is some nice bottom end to it. When listening to that, Im imagining a bass and drum accompaniment playing along. That would sound cool.

Thanks Al. Yeah, I hear ya about the vocal treatment. I just find that reverb and delay mask my limited vocals and helps to 'smoosh' them into the mix. Chorus and flange is something I haven't really messed with on vocals, but I will certainly try in the future.

    Mystery box ?

Ha ha! Not a human head, that's for sure. It's now a pre-amp. I removed the very long headphone jack cable and the stereo plug cable and wired up in and out "1/4 jacks and mounted them on the side of the box. It works well. Did a quick test recording with a bass and it does the trick.

    Mystery box ?

Yeah, Im always poking around thrift/goodwill stores. There is usually something interesting in the electrical section amongst the junk. Always looking out for cheap old mics and such. Got some nice old stereo recievers too. There was a thrift store selling an old AKG D19 microphone that they...

    Mystery box ?

Just plugged an Mp3 player into it. It actually sounds good. No noise. Then I tried plugging a bass into it. This time it was not nearly as noisey. Ant the tone/volume boost is pretty good. Im might mess with it and put a mono jack on it,clean the pots and maybe put a xlr or "1/4 out on it and...

    Mystery box ?

It was $4. I plugged the stereo jack into my strat and headphones into the 3.5mm. Got sound. Only in one side obviously. It's noisy, but if it could be summed to mono and the noise could be eliminated it could work as a pre I guess. It really boosts the sound of the electric guitar nicely and...

    Mystery box ?

I thought I'd post this here because this is the forum I frequent the most, and...I like you guys:) I was at a Thrift store and noticed this cheap looking plastic box with 3 Knobs. Tone,Balance,Volume. I don't know why I bought it, I was just curious. It is really light in weight. It feels like...
