Yes Burning as a redbook cd is the standard when destined for replication.

Song goes really quite after export

Normalizing a song will not get it to the levels that you are probably expecting. If you use a brick wall limiter, you will increase your average level a bit more dramatically. Listen for any added artifacts, distortion, loss of definition, punch and smearing of transients when using a limiter...

No, I can't claim it. I had seen used somewhere else.

    Master buss order.

I would recommend bouncing the mix out and setting up a new session for mastering. 2 separate processes. Mix and then master. For the order of the processors used, stereo enhancers are very rare in a dedicated mastering situation so I would bag that off the bat. The closest you will find to...

    Compression in master mode?

Chances are a comp in the porta studio will not sound that good and probably should be avoided. Beware of any presets... A/B between with and without compression and see if it's improving the sound (needed in the first place). It's very easy to over do anything and everything at the mastering...

Fundamental Differences Between Mastering In A DAW And Mastering Traditionally?

"Yep" makes some good points but is a bit schizophrenic with some of the things he mentions: 15 ips will have a higher noise floor than 30 ips. (more hiss) These don't make sense: Not really.

    True that.

    It's worse than I thought.

For sanity's sake lets change what was referred to as brick to waveform. I don't scrutinize mastered waveforms all that much, but I do know the less you rely on gobs of hard clipping and limiting for loudness the more the waveforms will resemble and sound like there are dynamics present... ya...

    It's worse than I thought.

I gotta agree with this ^ . With any out board compression I would use, I rarely ever see "any" gain reduction on the meters. I also have this thing where if I see more than a dB and a half on a brick wall limiter, I just feel dirty, so more than 2 dB is out of the question; ) Balanced Eq, and...

Where do i go from here

I don't think they have invented software yet that will adjust the ebb and flow of an album. To get continuity between songs, you really have to adjust the sonic balances based on what you hear. Having a room and full range monitoring system that is honest and translates well to the outside...

Mastering One Song? FACT OR FICTION

I hear ya. Then again, I was pretty surprised the first time a hip hop client had me download his project from his phone.

Mastering One Song? FACT OR FICTION

It depends what style of music it is... In hip hop, a trend that has been around for a while is for an artist to buy an instrumental track that has been pre-mixed and mastered. These are often mp3 or wma. Import into a session > lower by 5 dB > cut vocals, mix and remaster. Other styles of...
