97% of getting a song loud and clean is about getting the frequency balance on the mix right before attempting to add level. Full range monitors, a decent room and experience help with this.
It's mainly about frequency balance and how you go about gain staging, .. especially getting stuff loud...
I think when people are first starting out the tendency is to try to master the song in the mix session on the 2 bus.
I don't think is a great habit to get into, only because mastering is generally a separate process with a different frame of mind ..and there most likely aren't any records in...
I've heard good things about Quested as well, but never have heard them.
Just got out of a week lockout tracking with ATC SCM25A's
They would be at the top of my list if i was in the market for near fields.
The speaker market nowadays seems to be flooded with decent options.
A lot seem over priced
It's similar to playing bass on a keyboard. You'd tune the sample to the root pitch that you'd want and then everything is a scale in half steps from there.
You would just play an 808 kick/sine wave sample connected from the sampler thru midi from a keyboard, or if you don't have a keyboard,.. pitch change or make multiple pitch variations of an 808.

I'd have to agree.
..and still putting out great stuff these days. Cheers.
Anyway I rarely write or mix anymore.. but when I do.. and when I master, I usually or almost always hear the finished product in my head early on, ..and then it's just a matter of turning the right knobs to get it there.
Normally, I look for a musical que that makes rhythmical sense, ..which is not always easy. Naturally, downbeats are common or the four catching the lead in to the one, but then the cut also has to work where you're not hearing to much of the overlap and it has to lend itself to the intro. You...
Another +1.. Flow is important .. although a little less so in this age of singles that we're seeing again these days. . but albums.. yes ..Also having transitions/crossfades between songs can be captivating. see Pink Floyd. Just worked on an album today with no time between songs and...
It'll not going to give you the same effect as a true double track, but you can run one of the duplicated sides through an amp sim or re-amp it using more of a room mic and add a slight slapback and or chorus/modulation to one side. gl
I've seen quite a few ppl confuse the cd text which will show on some stereo's and car players with the cd database text. .. but, I've found it's better to upload to cddb with one of the disc that you get back from the dupe or replicators rather than the one offs. Also, sending one of the disc...
Barring all the fixes that are tedious and time consuming and plain not fun, I'd try to find why the problem is happening at the source. Could be an easy fix like investing in a voltage regulator or a cable that's going south. gl
In order: Engineer > Room/Monitors > Gear. It's that simple whether it's at home or a dedicated studio. I had no idea it was a controversy. I never said computer speakers and gamer headphones. You did, .. and obviously felt the need to take it to the extremes.
Engineering proficiency trumps...
It can be, but playing on a great Les Paul doesn't make you a better player, it just makes playing easier.
Experience and putting in the time is the real difference maker. It's nice when the gear acquisitions and experience can run in parallel, but it can be easy to blame not putting out good...
Really whatever the song calls for, but on quite a few songs/projects I find myself mainly automating bands on an itb eq where the outboard eq almost always remains static. ...although I did a project yesterday where I adjusted the outboard eq for different sections as well.
I also automate...
Mastering is easy,.. at least that's what the people selling the "all in one" plugs want you to believe,
.. but I don't think you understand how much easier it's gotten until you do it on a professional level.. everyday .. support your fam.. compete with your peers, .. be responsible for...
