I always liked stark songs like this where the lyrics take most of seat. The recording as a whole sounds slight woolly to me. Like the edges are a little blurred. But not completely in a "bad" way, really. Seems to fit in a way. Definitely some good songwriting, though.

Very odd for me to hear anything about over-compression because I use so little...almost to a wimpy point. Not much sat either because it's far too easy to overdo. So I think it may come down to that extra unneeded high shelf and/or perhaps (on vocals) some cumulative element that i WILL track...

"I am using a lot of processing." therein lies the prob I feel. every fx you add degrades the sound a bit even if it initially sounds good or like an improvement. A little goes a loooong way when everything is cumulatively summed. But when you sum a lot of "enhanced" sounds, it just gets too...

I like that 'driving' feel to the recording. it does have an 80s feel, but you have it working well. no real nits on the mix, nice n clear...and short!

very very cool tune dobro. like all the little elements and held my me throughout. mix sounds good. only nit for me you already said you'd take care of: panning the backing. i also think some more prominent percussive sounds would add a little rhythmic spice.

hey thx FB! I added a bit of high shelf to the final mix, so easy enough to tame that sizzle: remove it the shelf. Hiss on keys was on purpose, but also can be easily removed if distracting or annoying. appreciate that man.
